Sprint just declined me for service should I still get the phone?

I just got declined for service from Sprint. I have no idea why. They said they would send a letter in 7-10 days. I don't know if I answered one of the stupid identity questions wrong or if my credit is just that poor. I still have to have this phone though. It's truly what Ive been waiting for, but I don't want to look like an idiot carrying around a 450$ phone I can't use.

I live in Chicago and pretty much always near a hotspot including my home internet connection. Would that alleviate some of the downfall of not having access to a 3g/4g network. Is there any chance at all I'll be able to get this phone to work on another carrier.

wow...your credit must be terrible. Mine wasn't that good when I got their service a few years ago, but I only had to pay a $125 deposit. Was this at a sprint store or a licensed dealer? I've always had more confidence in the corporate guys for creative solutions. If not, then unless you are independently wealthy and have that kind of cash to throw around, I would pass on buying the phone just to buy it.

I would call Sprint again and see if you can pay a depost.

They won't let me. If someone knows an email I can send a pleading letter to that would be great. I was thinking of using a VOIP program as a work around but there would be to many instances of no wifi hotspot for it to be really usable. Even in Chicago I can't guarantee I will always be connected.

I can't understand why anyone would by the phone off contract. It's seems like such a hassle.

Im sure the Cricket and Metro people will want this phone on their network and will find a way to flash it to their network but here is the big problem, you will never get 4g working because no other cell phone carrier other than Sprint offers Wimax. There may also be problems with things like MMS also depending on what they can get working and what they cant.

Without a carrier to tie this to (mainly Sprint to get the real experience), this basically becomes a big mp3 player.

If your looking for something with a big screen that runs Android than you might as well go with an Archos 5 or something of that nature.

My credit is not too good either, and I think I am expecting to pay a deposit.

Don't they check carrier history? I've been with T-Mobile for 5 years, and I was late ONCE and that was in my 4th year and they let me pay it a week later because of my outstanding excellent payment history with them.

But to get completely shut down?

Damn.

I hope that doesn't happen to me.

You know Ive been giving this a lot thought and maybe you can help. Can any one spell out exactly what I would be missing out on by not having access to the Sprint Wimax network. Keep in mind...

1 I already have high speed wireless in my home.

2 Free highspeed wifi is available at my job.

3 My girlfriends home also has high speed wifi.

4 Living in the city of Chicago should give me enough opportunities to find free wifi hotspots. There seem to be some apps that help with this.

5. If I can combine free hotspots with a good VOIP application, something like from Vonage maybe that could be the hole phone call problem fixed.

Don't get me wrong I wish I didn't have to go through these headaches. I'd love to be able to get access to some sweet 4g goodness, buy I think this is the first time the technology will actually let me circumvent this big bureaucratic machine.

My credit was horrible (yes, I freely admit that) when I signed up for Sprint and they didn't charge me a deposit. I guess it's in their interest to set the bar low if they're this desperate for new post-paid customers.

But sure, if you have constant wireless access and have a Google Voice account I suppose you could get by without Sprint's nonsense. Seems stupid to pay $450 for a carrier locked phone, though.

I don't want to worry you, but you might want to make sure that your identity has not been stolen. If someone else is racking up bad credit using your social security number or other data then you have a much bigger problem. Various web sites have information about what to do if you suspect you may be the victim of identity theft. Here's one example:
Identity Theft: What to Do if It Happens to You | Privacy Rights Clearinghouse

Unless you know your own credit is really so bad they would refuse you a cell phone, don't ignore this because it will only get worse if your identity has been compromised.

Send dan@sprint.com a detailed E-Mail about the situation and include a phone number that you can be reached at. A Sprint rep for the 'office of CEO Dan Hesse' will contact you and hopefully you can work something out. They work Mon-Fri...Good luck!

The decline is because you answerred the security question wrong. My son wanted Sprint service and when they ran his credit he didnt answer the security questions right because they were referring to my husbands credit report (my son is a jr). 90 days later my son tried again and his father told him the answers and he was approved for 5 lines. I still believe the credit is my husbands because one of the questions referred to my husbands truck. Oh well my son left Sprint for an iphone when it was originially released anyway.
