Preorder hesitation

Assuming I get over the $10 "bend over" charge, I'm a little hesitant to place a preorder for the EVO - mainly because I haven't truly seen/touched one in person.

If I place a preorder from Best Buy or Radio Shack this week and then change my mind after seeing the actual phone in person, can I "return" the deposit I paid back to the store?

I've seen/used both the Nexus one and the Verizon Incredible. Perhaps there are some resources online that show the Incredible right next to the EVO for a little better comparison.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

According to a BB sales associate I spoke with over the weekend, your deposit is in the form of a gift card. If you decide to not pick up the phone you can use that $50 gift card deposit for something else. I would assume there are items in BB that are of interest to you, whether now or in the far future. I also read where RS has a similar arrangement, but I haven't been in their store to verify this myself. That could be your solution.

Also, where I pre ordered at BB, they told me the phone shipment they will get will be however many are pre ordered *plus* the normal shipment.

So they will have them on the day of release, so someone can check them out then. Assuming there isn't a mad rush or something, it sounds like it could easily be bought that day or two, for a week or more...

I figure even with the 10.00 extra it's cheaper then the other carriers, and while the overall size will be a little bigger then my treo pro, for the screen real estate you get, wow, it's really going to be impressive... imho.

good luck,

You are absolutely correct. My pre order is from the BB store.

In 2001 I put down a $1000 deposit on a motorcycle that I or no one else except a handful of journalists had ever seen, much less ridden. Then I had to drive 3 1/2 hours to pay another 13.5k to get the bike, still having never ridden it. I did my homework as best I could and knew what I wanted. One of the best decisions I ever made.

So you're saying that the EVO will be a sweet ride, huh? ;)

Thanks for all the replies, I appreciate the info!

And this has what to do with buying a phone? If I spent $14.5k on a bike I would tell myself the same thing regardless of whether I liked it. I'm not saying that you aren't being honest but you can't compare a $200 phone to a $14.5K bike. If I don't like the EVO I can easily toss it and not be worried about it (Not that I would just throw it away).

EDIT:

@the OP, I'm waiting to preorder my phone as well. I know that there is still three weeks until the launch date and I definitely want to keep my options open. I definitely don't want to be obligated to get it from one place over another.

If you want an in person size comaprison look at the HD2 from tmoble. The incredible should also give you an idea of how android and sense will work on the evo. Also bill posted this site back which will also give you an idea on size:

HTC EVO 4G Size Compare (Phone Arena)

I used that comparison page (iPhone vs EVO) .... pretty neat but then I went to a T-Mobile store and "handled" the HTC HD2 and it FELT 2x as large. That "size-comparison" page doesn't really work well. You really need at the very least to play with an HD2 at a T-Mobile store to get a true "feel" for the size if you need that.

You can also see HD2 at BB and RS.

My wife was hesitant too. In fact, she wanted a Samsung Moment because of the keyboard. We stopped at a The Shack and she saw both (HD2 & Moment). Before we even got close enough to the display to touch them - she said "OK, Evo it is for me too!"

She was worried mainly about the size and lack of keyboard until she saw that it was incredibly thin and would not become a purse-killer. She also saw Sense UI compared to Sense/Touchflow3D on HD2 which was even more of a plus for Evo.

Does anyone know where I can find a side by side comparison between the windows mobile HD2 and the new android evo?
I used to be an owner and lover of the iphone 3gs, until a month ago when I saw the evo. I since then sold the iphone and got an HD2 to hold on until the evo comes out.
I have never used an android phone before, and would like to know about the experience of that OS compared to windows mobile?
The HD2 is a great phone, but being a mac user, I am not too keen about windows. would android be a better fit?
thanks
