Help Signal issues on Orange Hero

I've found that over the last couple of weeks, calls are often going straight to my voicemail despite having phone saying I have full signal and also that text messages often won't send despite the phone also saying it has full signal.

I'm on Orange and have the Hero running on the latest ROM verison.

Anyone else had any issues and / or know any fix?

Yep exact same problems here, also when browsing on the net it just suddenly stops finding a webpage, green indicator bar just freezes at one notch, screen stays white and eventually page cannot be found message comes up. this happens every single time I browse, finds 3 or 4 pages no prob then freezes, happens all locations.
No problems on Wifi, wizzes thru the pages.
Its as if the mobile network setting is turning itself off and then back on.
I escalated this problem up to level 3 tech support at Orange and was promised a call back from them 2 weeks ago, they never called back.
These signal issues with Orange are spoiling a otherwise great phone.

One day last week i couldn't get a text to send to one friend, tried it 4 times....I though I was out of credit....i checked and i had plenty left...I then text another person and it went thru fine but still couldn't text the original person till the next day.

This, on top of the issue with not getting calls whilst surfing, has pretty much forced my hand into selling the hero and getting the iPhone 3gs when it hits orangr payg

Still having these issues and seemingly only way I've found of getting round it is to switch the phone off then back on again, cue a glut of text messages and missed calls alerts that I knew nothing about previously.

I'm possibly jumping to conclusions here but I find that the phone works fine when I'm at home but I have issues with not being able to send / receive calls and texts when I'm at work.

I was using Locale to change my settings when at work but I've subsequently uninstalled it, but am wondering if somehow it's left some remnant somewhere that's changing my settings at work meaning the failed calls and texts.

Any thoughts anyone?

Have exactly the same problem, however, also had it on my old Nokia as well.....I can also tell you what the problem is.

3g coverage. At work (canary wharf, London) i cannot get a decent 3g network, all of my calls just go straight to voicemail. However, if I switch to the 2g only option (setting>wireless controls>mobile network setting>use 2g only) everything works fine!!!

Hope this helps.

Cheers Rob. I'll give that a go. Initial impression is that it might well be the case as I've been trying to send a text for 15 mins and it sent first time after changing to 2G...

Maybe I'll get Locale back and set it to change to 2G at work and back to 3G or Wi-Fi when elsewhere...

Will report back later...

Immediate impression is that this has fixed it - just had 3 texts come in immediately having been sent.

What's the technical explanation then? In my (fairly simple, non-technical) head 3G coverage shouldn't effect calls as that's just data isn't it?

I was previously really happy with my coverage. I was rooted and rommed (MCR), but then a few of my texts didn't arrive with recipients after I had sent them. This really dents my confidence in ANY phone to be honest, and my 8900 Curve was laughing at me from my desk drawer.

I decided to flash to the official Orange update from the HTC site. My signal has been pretty crappy all day today.

I've had the straight to VM thing though. To the point where it will do it if it's on the left hand side of my lappy on my desk - but not on the right hand side.

annoying, but not as annoying as Orange's sub-par support.

I was about to start a similar thread, and found this. This is problem is doing my head in... I'm missing important calls and people are giving up on calling me because all they're getting is my voicemail.

Also, I have an old fashioned phone (Sony Erickson mobile) sitting next to my Hero on PAYG, and that's just displaying a full signal call bar the whole time, while my Hero fluctuates between full signal and no signal at all.

Very frustrating. I love the phone, but this is making it pretty useless.

I'm having similar issues, I've recently started commuting in London and I find that whenever I come up from the underground the phone takes forever to find a 3G signal again. It's really frustrating. I've taken to turning the phone off and on again, but sometimes it still doesn't happen. I also get random episodes of text messages being unable to be sent, and the straight to voicemail thing. Also on Orange.

Also at home I get next to no signal. I can receive calls, but they drop or the line is terrible, then it drops.

I keep thinking, I love this phone so much, but now and again I get a reason to hate it - and it's becoming more often!
