I got my Phantom Skinz screen only protector a few weeks ago, and let's say that I'm less than pleased.
Installation wasn't terrible, the trick seemed to be to have a good layer of your soapy water between the protector and the screen. I put mine on with the phone sitting on a towel to immediately soak up any excess liquid. As long as you don't press too hard, you can "float" the film on the water and position it perfectly. The film is stretchy, so if you get one section down, you can adjust other parts without having to pull up the whole thing.I was a little scared having the trackpad button covered with water, but it didn't seem to mind.
Overall the protector is better than the similar one that all my moto-droid loser friends are using. It is not nearly as draggy on my finger and handles scratches with ease.
Now for the gripes.
The film is very thick, with sharp edges that you can feel all the way around the outside edge. The thickness and sharpness makes it very difficult to use the trackpad, as you are basically having to try and get your finger down into the hole in the protector.
I was not able to get all of the air bubbles out, and they have not "disappeared on their own" as some have said they do. I was also not able to get it perfectly flat. There are areas of bad orange peel that I was just unable to get out. It took me four attempts to get it decent enough that I could read the screen. Anywhere that the thickness varies causes a prism effect that makes anything on a white background very difficult to read, and I am sorry, but I did not buy this beautiful phone to make the screen look like crap.
The worst however has developed over the weeks that I've had it on. Along the right and top edges where the phone touches my face while I talk on it, the film has become raised, and the adhesive has begun to extrude out the side and collect gunk in it. I'm guessing the heat/moisture/oils from my face have begun to degrade the adhesive.
After reading reviews, I think I will be getting the SGP Crystal. I liked the idea of the glare reducing finger print resistant one, but after reading about the blurriness, I think I'll go with the Crystal.
Can anyone weigh in on the thickness of the SGP skins? How is using the trackpad with them installed? is there a noticeable edge around the edge of the screen?
