I got my Phantom Skinz screen only protector a few weeks ago, and let's say that I'm less than pleased.

Installation wasn't terrible, the trick seemed to be to have a good layer of your soapy water between the protector and the screen. I put mine on with the phone sitting on a towel to immediately soak up any excess liquid. As long as you don't press too hard, you can "float" the film on the water and position it perfectly. The film is stretchy, so if you get one section down, you can adjust other parts without having to pull up the whole thing.I was a little scared having the trackpad button covered with water, but it didn't seem to mind.

Overall the protector is better than the similar one that all my moto-droid loser friends are using. It is not nearly as draggy on my finger and handles scratches with ease.

Now for the gripes.

The film is very thick, with sharp edges that you can feel all the way around the outside edge. The thickness and sharpness makes it very difficult to use the trackpad, as you are basically having to try and get your finger down into the hole in the protector.

I was not able to get all of the air bubbles out, and they have not "disappeared on their own" as some have said they do. I was also not able to get it perfectly flat. There are areas of bad orange peel that I was just unable to get out. It took me four attempts to get it decent enough that I could read the screen. Anywhere that the thickness varies causes a prism effect that makes anything on a white background very difficult to read, and I am sorry, but I did not buy this beautiful phone to make the screen look like crap.

The worst however has developed over the weeks that I've had it on. Along the right and top edges where the phone touches my face while I talk on it, the film has become raised, and the adhesive has begun to extrude out the side and collect gunk in it. I'm guessing the heat/moisture/oils from my face have begun to degrade the adhesive.

After reading reviews, I think I will be getting the SGP Crystal. I liked the idea of the glare reducing finger print resistant one, but after reading about the blurriness, I think I'll go with the Crystal.

Can anyone weigh in on the thickness of the SGP skins? How is using the trackpad with them installed? is there a noticeable edge around the edge of the screen?

Interesting...I put a Phantom Skin on mine the day I got it. Went on perfect, very smooth, no bubbles. Friends of mine had no idea there was a protector on it until I told them. The rep at the Verizon store did not even notice it, tried to sell me a screen protector, and told him there was already one on there. One thing different for me, when applying, I had very minimal water on mine, I shook off the excess before applying and did not have the same experience as mentioned above. After seeing the Zagg shield, I liked my Phantom Skin even that much more, but I have not seen the SGP so I cannot comment on a comparison there, but i love what I have now with my Phantom Skin, no plans to change.

i still don't understand why they use wet applications. dry is SO MUCH EASIER and if you're careful, the results are perfect. even if they say it's safe, i don't feel like drenching my phone in some solution or soap. i'll never buy a wet app protector, and i don't think i'll be getting one on this phone at all. the silicone case in the N1 sleeve is PERFECT.

I just got my N1 sleeve yesterday and I have the black Verizon silicone case on it. When I put it in the N1 sleeve it was too tight to get out if the phone was ringing. How did you achieve this? A stretching method?

Shove a deck of playing cards in it and let it sit like that for a day or two, it will stretch out just right.

I pushed the deck all the way down to the bottom of the sleeve the first night then only pushed the deck half way down the 2nd night to stretch out the opening. Fits perfect!

I have installed Phantomz on my Inc and love it. After a week it doesn't even feel like it is on there and is as smooth as the glass was prior to install. I have since installed them on my daughters phones and my itouch. I have tried to use the stick on ones in the past and getting them perfectly aligned was near impossible. With the wet method you can move it around till you have it exactly where you want it, push the water out and whala, perfect application.

Bummer your experience was a negative one. Nobody can tell my screen protector is on either.

Man sorry you had a bad experience. Mine has been exactly the opposite. I love the skin. Went on easy and its not grippy. I did have a few very very tiny bubbles but they went away eventually after a few days. There is a very slight slight slight orange peel effect but you have to hold it at just the right angle with the screen off in bright sun to even see it. Its nothing like you describe though, nothing that would hinder performance.

Maybe give them an email. See if theyll send another.

I think its a quality control issue. I used phantom skinz on my Touch Pro and my Touch Pro 2 and they were simply amazing. Easily blew ZAGG outa the freaking water and a super deal with the internet special for 2 full kits. They cured crystal clear with no orange peel and super durable.

Then I ordered some for my Moto Droid and they werent very clear with noticeable orange peel in various sections of the screen as well as some very fine lines that wouldn't rub out in the lower left hand section. Plus they seemed alot softer on my Moto Droid so that any new scratches wouldn't heal themselves over time like on my previous devices.
