According To This Wal-Mart's Web Site, Walmart.com: Sprint - HTC EVO 4G Smartphone (Price with New 2-yr Contract): Home Office, The Evo Comes With A "4.3" 480 x 800 WVGA OLED Touch Screen." And It Looks Like The Evo Got Smaller, Thicker, But Heavier, Too, According To The Specifications!

Shipping Weight (in pounds):1.0 (Instead Of The 6.0 Ounces!)
Product in Inches (L x W x H):1.0 x 1.0 x 1.0 (Instead Of The 4.8", 2.6", and .5")

And It's All This For Just $199.99!

I Know, It's Just Weird That Everyone Knows It's A TFT LCD And Wal-Mart Puts It As OLED.

Wait . . . This Might Mean Something!

It means that Wal-Mart is not a place I'd shop for cell phones at. Half the time they can't even tell me where Tostito's Salsa is - I'm not surprised they are clueless about phones.

Damn I want salsa now...

Oh yeah, and this thread should probably be closed. Though it is worth noting Sprints Dev site said OLED for awhile, I just don't think Walmart has any inside info on this phone, it's pretty much set in stone it's going to be LCD. If they pulled a "surprise" on launch date, well, I would be surprised.

Wait, What's The Difference Between TFT And OLED And Which One Is Better? And Why?

TFT supports the beginning of words with lowercase letters. :p

Seriously though, in a nutshell, without getting into the technical differences between them, OLED has richer more highly saturated colors and darker blacks. TFT isn't quite as high-contrast but it is backlit and is easier to view in bright light. OLED has a better viewing angle.

Essentially there are pros and cons to each technology.

I *know* this is the EVO forum, but if you want to see a really nice AMOLED screen, check out the Samsung Moment @ Sprint. My g/f has the moment, and it is amazingly beautiful. Makes my palm treo800 look like doo-doo [EDIT: and when I got my treo, I thought it rocked...].

I had a Moment, for well, .. ahem a moment ( a week actually), and yes it does hav a great screen, right up until to try to walk outside... if I have to go with a compromise to see it indoors & out I take compromise!

AMOLED is far superior to TFT. Some people posting here have never used AMOLED before they are just trying to make themselves feel better about the Evo not having one.

My Incredible has AMOLED and there is NO difference in viewing in direct sunlight compared to any TFT screened phone I have used. I have compared side by side with many TFT screened phones. Whoever made up the misinformation of AMOLED being poor in sunlight is dead wrong.

AMOLED does not have a backlight making black levels amazingly 100% black since the LEDs are simply off and there is no LCD to leak backlight light like on TFT. Also colors are amazing on AMOLED since there is no backlight to wash them out.

AMOLED uses less power. When the screen is mostly black the screen uses almost NO power at all since most of the LEDs are off and there is no backlight to suck power.
