Verizon Protection Plan or Best Buy?

I have had so many phones over the past 25 years that I can't remember which company it was but when I had a claim and they replaced my phone, the refurbished phone they sent me was scratched and I was so pissed. I returned it and they sent another phone and it was worse.

I am wondering if Best Buy builds up a stock of refurbished phones and if they use those for replacement purposes or if they get the replacement units from Verizon. Or does Best Buy just give out new phones if you ever have a claim and your phone has to be replaced.

Im trying to decide if I buy the Best Buy protection plan or the Verizon protection plan. I always fear the replacement phone will not "look" new.

Thanks for your thoughts.

As an ex-BestBuy Employee, I would advise AGAINST getting the best buy protection plan. It is a complete rip off....

Can you explain a bit more on this?

My past experience with Verizon was terrible. My Moto Q died after like 2 days with it. I went to store and they replaced it right away with a new one. Then that new one died just after 30 days and they would not replace. I took it in on a Saturday and had to wait until Tuesday I believe to get the refurb by mail so I was without a phone for a couple of days. I asked Verizon for a temp phone and they said no.

Best Buy plan says they will give you a loaner phone if you have to send in your phone.

I hope I never need either but want to have one just in case.

If you choose to get a protection plan, I highly recommend Verizon over Best Buy. I'm not an expert, but here is my story and I can only hope it will save others the pain!!

I purchased my droid at Best Buy and out of laziness accepted their offer of the Black Tie Protection plan because the salesman told me it was better than Verizon and I figured I would look into it later and had 30 days to decide. Unfortunately, two weeks later I dropped my droid and the screen shattered. I took my phone to Best Buy and was told it would be a minimum of 30 days before I get it back!!! The salesman had originally told me they would just give me a new one, but it turns out he was lying/incompetent. It has been 8 days since I dropped it off, and I just NOW got an automated email from the geek squad saying they have received my phone and will email me again when there is any service updates. I have called several times out of helpless frustration and have had several different geek squad agents tell me 30 days is a MINIMUM and it may take even longer than that .

The Verizon plan costs around $2 less a month (7 vs 9?), but requires something like an $80 co-pay to replace the phone. BUT!!! (and this is a really huge but) they give you the replacement phone in 2 to 3 days. I would MUCH MUCH MUCH rather pay $80 to get my phone in 2 days!!! Also, the Verizon plan covers if its lost/stolen and the Best Buy one doesn't. I am kicking myself for not looking into this sooner. I want my phone back!!! As soon as its in my hands I will cancel the Best Buy plan (if that's possible).

Also, I have activated the Verizon insurance on my phone now and I told them I consider Best Buy to have stolen my phone, but they said that doesn't count so they won't send me a new one :( That's what I get for telling the truth :p They would have probably figured it out when my phone showed up at their service center 4 weeks from now anyway...
