Samsung Moment is one of the greatest android phones in my opinion. I have had my moment for about three weeks now. I have recently just updated to the new 2.1 and it is working great. The update I used from from sprint and used the sprint downloaded. I also have found a way to get the 3D photo gallery and live wallpapers. All this is done WITHOUT rooting the phone. Ok and just a little fyi these people that talk about saving battery life by downloading a "task killer" or "app killer" it is not nessacery. The way the android operating system works is when you open a app or anything on your phone to use it and then go to another app or whatever. The operating system puts your previous app on hold or pause. The app DOES NOT run in the back ground. There for it is not wasting battery life. I discovered this about a week ago and I myself had a task killer on my phone and I got rid of it. I have actually seen a increase in battery life. Ok and this is what is boils down to. 1. This is a phone that basiclly acts like a mini computer. Therefore the battery life isn't goin to be super amazing. If you want a phone with amazing battery life go buy a cheap pre paid phone. So in conclusion for what all this phone can do it is pretty amazing that it can hold a battery charge for about 12-15 hrs.

Ah, 3 weeks and the glow is still on. For balance, I arrived at work with my 6-7 month old newly "official" 2.1 upgraded Moment a couple of minutes ago. I just turned off my BT headset and the phone rebooted. Voice search has worked a total of once, otherwise "server problem". The annoying lost service tone is still there and still can't be silenced. The gps reception is weak compared to even a 4 year old Mogul. I've never seen better than ~6 hours of battery life with reasonable use, but the jury's still out with the de03. Task killers are largely unnecessary IMHO for battery saving EXCEPT when you get a rogue process that heats up the phone and drains the battery in minutes. Maybe a feature of the 2.1 beta and not the release? Time will tell. 2.1 is a great upgrade for this phone, but Samsung also left out a bunch of features.

My battery is draining almost 20% an hour right now while all Ive done is send a few texts. This even after I just wiped it clean and have zero apps installed. Yeah thats a pretty sweet phone. Oh and lets not forget that not only am I now getting data lockups and total loss of data, my GPS has decided to follow suit and make itself disappear as well. Then theres the fact that I havent received a picture mail in over 2 months no matter what fixes myself and sprint apply. Now I could have a bum phone but Ill be damned if Im gonna pay $100 to find out (yeah Sprints refusing to replace it without getting my $100)

This phones got a ton of potential but the more I use it the more I hate it. If the guy Ive been talking with follows thru this phone will be gone by the weekend.

Those of you with GPS issues, I suggest taking it in and getting it replaced. I had issues with the gps on my first moment. It would lock only when outside and even then if i start driving it will lose the lock and then get it back after 10 or so seconds. I brought it to a sprint authorized repair center... complained that its just not working... they did the usual factory reset blah blah blah and then replaced it within the next 2 days.

The new/refurbished (not sure which) Moment, is rock solid. Locks while within my house and solid locks outside in the car.

Battery life with both have been pretty generic... full at 8am and at ~20% by midnight that same day when i stick it back on the charger. I havent seen much better or worse battery life with mine unless a rogue process decides to turn my phone into a pocket warmer. I never use task killers (rooted so i use "top" instead) and I have SetCPU to 800/800 ALL the time including during sleep (aka no profiles at all).

In the end, I agree... this thing is a mini computer and the fact that it runs all day doing whatever i want... its great. Also for what its worth, my TA (I'm an instructor at SJSU) just told me the other day while i was looking up student's ID's and grades that my phone is tons faster than her friend's iPhone. I thought that was encouraging. =)

Enjoy everybody. Technology is here to serve us so no sense in getting angry at it... just use it and if it doesnt work out then switch it for something that does. Variety is greatness here.

Thx for the rant!

Definitely an issue with your phones... I took my phone off the charger Saturday morning at 8 and when leaving a friends house at 3 Sunday morning I had just gotten into the red. That's with normal use.

My GPS is actually locking on now which has been nice to know but have yet to actually use it.

Yup, I've had mine for a few months. I charge mine and it's good for usually 3 days of moderate use. I've gone a full work week of light use before.

Pretty sure the only thing I've done is get rid of the TV and Weather widgets on the home screens.

The battery usage in the device will vary over time. It depends on the apps you installed from the Android Market. Most of the apps are untested by hTC or Sprint folks. Some of the apps will not go to sleep despite running in the background. The battery drainage is detectable when your device goes pretty hot.

Some apps directly effect battery life but most don't. Data signal strength is the biggest contributor to battery life. Live/travel/work in an area with strong 3g and you're likely to get longer battery life. Live/travel/work in a weak 3g area and you're not going to be happy. The runaway (rogue) process issue that occurred with the 2.1 beta's seems to be better with the release (at least so far for me) and from experience and what I've gleaned, had absolutely nothing to do with 3rd party apps.

Ahh I am Moment free. Went to another Android phone and so far loving it. Unplugged current phone at 7 am and Im at 72% currently, with tons of usage. If it stays this way Im a very happy camper. Later all and good luck with what I think is a p.o.s. phone.

Did you change carriers? Because the only other Android phone currently available on Sprint is the Hero and its battery life isn't any better.

Good luck with the new toy!

Allow me to sum up OP:

"I'm still in the honeymoon phase and/or haven't used enough features to know what's broken yet!"

Task killer was needed in 1.5 to optimize battery use, not that important in 2.1. Take it from me, I have about 7 months experience.

I have had my phone for 6 months now. I updated to CL14. I updated to DE03.

After all that I am still firmly in the "love this phone" camp. It does alot really well. Pandora/Last.fm/Slacker is fixed with DE03. I run movies, music, navigation, the browser, EVERYTHING and it's all awesome. The camera works even better than before. The widgets work great for weather, music, etc.

I've yet to find a deal breaker. The phone is solid and I am here to say:

My name is Devin and I love the Moment.

Hmmm... Must be something wrong with it or something installed that is eating away at the battery. I am at 14 hours from last charge and at 40%.

My wife and I both have had our Moments for about 2 months now and I'm really starting to hate it. She has had to have her ribbon for the keyboard replaced once, mine's starting to do the same thing her's was now. I'm at the point that I basically get no emails on my phone, it has been sending less and less, now I receive none when I know I have emails. One day I was playing a game on my phone and my wife said she tried calling me and it just went to voice mail. I had no missed calls or voice mail. Rebooted my phone and I had a voice mail. I have gotten calls while I was playing the same game before with no issues.
