Borderlands

I used to play Borderlands with my roommate (who's really into shooters) and we both got bored of it. I think we went up to lvl 14 and were like "Meh..." I'm not really into shooters very much, so I wasn't expecting to like it a whole lot, but decided to try the game out because of the co-op. I'm the kind of person who takes an awful long time to aim and runs away when scared. :p Shooters... not for me.

I never really understood the leveling concept behind it and the weird RPG feel of the game. Was it one big map? I felt like there wasn't a lot of diversity of terrain.

The game has a bunch of large zones rather than one big map. The areas do look a little similar as far as terrain goes, but all the graphics are hand-drawn, so you can't expect a Fallout 3 level of detail out of it. Personally I think it gives it a charm I haven't gotten out of any other game.

Also, if you're not a fan of shooters, this isn't a game for you. I always told my friends when this game came out that it's like a cross of Fallout 3 and Diablo, in the sense that it's a post-apocalyptic FPS with loot-oriented RPG mechanics.

Couldn't have said it any better. That's exactly what Borderlands reminds me of.

Yeah it really wasn't. I actually didn't mind the style of art that they used with this game. My FPS-loving roommate was really bothered by it because he was so used to realistic FPS shooters, like CoD:MW2. I have actually played one before and that was Uncharted 2. I only played it for the story and absolutely stunning graphics (and everything that goes along with it like cinematography), hehe. I never cared for the gameplay. What I couldn't really understand from Borderlands was the plot. Was there one? I don't feel like I played it long enough to realize that there was a story going on. I felt like it was just "quests" that I did, like in WoW.

Side Note: CAN'T WAIT UNTIL DIABLO 3! :D

Borderlands went one of two ways..people loved it.. or they hated it.

I personally loved it..

I loved the artistic nature of the game, I loved the humor and references to other works. The reference to mothra made made my day.. I use to love godzilla vs mothra when I was younger.

I also enjoyed the characters.. I can't explain my irrational attraction to Tannis but, I loved the emotionless nature along with finding out about her tangled relationship with her recording device... I once had a recording device of my own that betrayed my trust.

With all that said I should really replay it as I beat it as a hunter and never really got too into my second play through.

While some people disliked the little robots.. I personally enjoyed the claptraps..

Something about it just pulled me in.. Sure the monsters all sorta blur together and it can be repetitive.. but, that doesn't matter if your having fun..which I did. I only wish my brothers had ps3's so we could play together.. or I had a computer more capable of playing.. but, it just seems more like a console game to me..

I loved the multiplayer aspect of this game. I actually never played it online, but my younger brother and I played this a lot. It was a lot of fun, especially when we took on Cramerax (if I'm spelling that right!).

I always like playing as Lilith for some reason. I've tried the other characters but she's really my favorite :)

Claptraps are my favorite part of the game!

Borderlands was a really great game for awhile. The graphics were a nice change of pace from alot of the realistic games around. After getting 2 characters to 50 and 1 to the lvl cap it lost it's luster unfortunately. The 2 very VERY disappointing dlc's didn't help much either.

P.S. BF:BC2 >>> CoD

I'm curious which two DLC's you felt were disappointing. Zombie Island and Armory of G. Knoxx were among some of the most sold DLC's for any downloads on XBL. I might agree that Underdome was a waste of $ but the extra bank space was more than worth it imo.

Ha, I had actually forgotten about underdome. I was referring to Zombie Island and Armory. Just felt that they didn't add enough to the game. They were both very short DLC's and the weapons that were added were lackluster at best for the most part. Underdome was actually a pretty good DLC imo. The bank space was VERY welcome and it's still fun to try and find 3 others and do one of the big tourneys every now and then. About the only real challenge left in that game now.

I hope so, I really enjoyed playing through the Zombie Island DLC today, funny and gave me a ton of EXP thanks to the mobs and mobs of zombies to blow through.

Zombie Island is quite some fun even by your lonesome. My fav by far was the Secret Armory though. Granted, it was glitched by many folks - it was still very enjoyable before the end portion of it.

You'd better have some friends to play this with, because single player gets very repetitive rather quickly, and random matchmaking gets annoying with everyone running off and doing the missions on their own and leaving you in the dust as if you weren't even there. I have it for the PS3 and it's collecting dust since I don't have any PSN friends and doing random matchmaking is almost like watching other people play the game and having all the fun.

I am actually playing it the first time through whenever I have time. Currently a level 23 Soldier.

Not a big RPG fan. The only one I enjoyed was Rogue Galaxy on PS2. My girlfriend bought me FFXIII the day it came out, even though I told her I hated every FF game I've played before. Anyway, Borderlands has seen game time since I've gotten bored with MW2. Once you prestige, it's just repetitive.

Borderlands had a good mix of FPS and RPG for me. Yeah, it's pretty repetitive. But its entertaining, and that's what I care about. I'd rather be playing a repetitive action game than watching a slow moving story game like FF.
