HTC Sense on Droid

I got a sprint HTC Hero but am very disappointed by it's speed (And I run only two widgets - bookmarks and weather!) - when I press the menu button the phone can take up to 3 seconds for the pulldown login screen to show up - super annoying.....I'm loving Droid for the tech specs...but I love the sense UI...is it possible to put the sense UI on the droid in theory? I have a few more days to return the hero and might if I could get this to work.

It will never truly be integrated because Sense is from HTC and the Droid is a Motorola phone.

But their is a good chance that you will be able to port moto blur over to the Droid. It is good alternative.

hm i have the htc hero and that seems like a lot of lag for just two widgets open. i just did an experiment by opening all my programs and filling all 7 home screens with widgets; it sometimes stuttered when making transitions but i never had any lag when pulling the notification bar down. i actually think the system was shutting down services to compensate cuz when i killed all the tasks, i had more memory then when i started.
maybe there's a single app open on your phone that's causing the system to slow down.
i have encountered HORRIBLE lag when texting with handcent for awhile to the point where i want to chuck the phone but when i'm not texting like a mad man, the phone is relatively lag free. i found that the prediction/correction causes the terrible lag but it's almost impossible to type quickly without it on...maybe they'll provide an optimization update. there's also a lot of lag when the phone tries to send and receive sms.
i'd love to get the droid due to the fact that its hardware is simply amazing but vzw's pricing plans are far too expensive to justify having the phone.

Yeah, something sounds wrong if you are feeling a 3 second delay to do a simple task like that. I know the Hero isn't as fast as the Droid.. but it shoudln't be THAT slow. You must have some kind of poorly designed app running in the background or something.

This is also a symptom of open source os. No extensive testing of apps by Google. People may have different experiences depending on the specific apps and widgets downloaded onto there device. I would start removing one by one until I figured out which app or widget was jacking the RAM.

As to your original question, it is totally pausible to have sense on the droid, but the big thing is a dev needs to port it over. Now the biggest problem I see is the droid and hero have different resolutions which would cause all the images to be very small, so whoever does try to port it will have to do some resizing.

I have the Hero and really like it a lot. I am going to the Droid but am a little anxious about not having sense ui. All the "improvements" they have mentioned in the android 2.0 seem to be already done by sense and in many cases seems to be better. Integrated contacts w/social networking and unified inbox/email/messaging, even integrated into the contact app.

Multitouch zooming in email and webbrowsing. Slick as hell graphics. The music player is slick. The widgets are very nice. Droid video seems better but stills seem considerably worse. Its like 2 steps forward in specs but 5 steps backward in functionality, UI and execution.

I've said it a thousand times in the winmo space over the past decade and I'll say it here. I'm tired of hearing they'll fix it in an update etc etc. These companies (Moto, HTC, Samsung etc etc) have decades more experience and hundreds if not thousands of phones under their belt and there is just no excuse to have the defects that they put out with their phones especially when a fledgeling handset maker like Apple beats them all even to this day with their first offering and kills them with only the third iteration of their 1st handset.... NO EXCUSES!

There is always the Droid Eris which has been described as "very fast" which means perhaps more tweaking of the base software by HTC. The Eris will be get Android 2.0 in time as well.

Isn't the OTB software landscape instead of portrait? So anyone familiar with it may struggle to get used to Sense running on it?
