Was able to play with an EVO last night.

(*I will not say where I was or which store it was at*)

I just bought a 46" Samsung 6500 LED television last night. As I was wheeling my cart over to the checkout I decided to stop in the cellphone dept and was asking what the full retail price of the EVO was going to be when it was released. I was quoted 599.00 if I was not eligible for an upgrade. The sales assoc. then asked me if I was planning to buy one and if I was, I could put some money down on it now to ensure I got one on it's release date. I stated I did not want to buy it until I saw it and was able to play with it for a few. The sales assoc. then walked over to the store manager/asst manager or whatever he was, and chatted with him for a few minutes and then they both walked over to me. The manager then asked if I was buying that TV today; I stated yes. He then said he will take my new TV to the checkout for me; and that the sales assoc had something to show me.

He took me into the back room, and low and behold they had an activated EVO. He made me promise him that I would no tell anyone where I saw it at. So........

That thing is huge, it is extremely fast and while flipping the screens and playing with it for a few minutes I was very impressed. It is so big though, I couldn't even imagine having a case (body glove) for that thing. It would make it too big. There was absolutely no lag while loading apps. He showed me the youtube app and it was amazing, HD quality. I noticed the volume buttons were on the right side vice the left side like on the hero. He showed me the FM radio feature as well. Nice and loud and clear. It has a really nice speaker. He did say that if I wanted to activate the 4G feature on the phone, that Sprint will charge an additional $10 per month. I tried to take a couple of pictures of it with my Hero, but he said "No Way", they aren't supposed to be showing it to anyone.

We have our demo at my work as of Monday but I havent worked since Sunday. I work tomorrow night so Ill try and sneak some pics for everyone. The place rhymes with "West Guy" in case anyone wants to try and convince a sales rep to show it to them. I talked to a coworker Monday night who said the thing is pretty big which may actually keep me from getting one.

199.99 is what we're charging out the door for upgrades I believe. No rebates involved. Ill double check upgrade vs. new contract price tomorrow.

So he said the $10/mo for 4G is optional? The other stuff I've read made it sound like it's a mandatory charge if you get the Evo. That would be sweet, since I currently don't live in a 4G covered city, but would like to get the Evo in October when I'm eligible for an upgrade...

I was able to play with one as well. The most significant thing that I observed was the overwhelming size. When deciding between the Hero and Moment, I got the Hero because the Moment was too big (even though the Moment is faster). This phone makes the Moment look easily pocketable. As I said in another thread, I am waiting until the next Hero-sized phone comes out with the fast 1GHz or better processor. I don't wear cargo shorts or those hip holsters, so small size is important to me ... more important than less lag.

Talked with a Sprint rep yesterday who told me it was mandatory whether or not you have access to 4g. Kind a bummer, but not a deal breaker for me.

However, what might be is the size. I might have to stop by a T-Mobile and check out the HD2 which I believe has approximately the same dimensions (maybe a little thinner) and the same screen size.

Otherwise, I want it ... now!

The Evo is smaller than the Palm IIIc was back in the day, and it was no problem having that in a pocket. The Evo is only a few mm taller and wider than the iPhone. I don't understand why anybody should have a problem with the Evo's size.

Exactly. It just looks big because of the screen. Its not much bigger than a moto q9c or bberry either
