For everyone that has an eris with the new 2.1 installed on it and your having problems, chill. Android 2.1 was not intended for the eris in th first place so expect there to be some bugs. Yes it went through testing but there is no possible way for them to know how it will work on everyones phone. For those of you who are having problems the best thing to do now is just suck it up and wait for them to update ( In the nxt month) with bug fixes, or you can go bitch to Verizon only to have them send you a new eris with the same firmware on it with the same or different problems.
A quick fix is to completely wipe your phone and start over again by pwer + vol dwn, this has taken some of the bugs out because it is a clean version of 2.1 not over laid 1.5. Iv been working on the Android platform for awhile and with new OS you need to be patient, Android is still in its infant stage of development. Besides 2.2 will be coming out soon so 2.1 will just be a memory:D

Be happy you have a Android and not a piece of shit low benchmarking Ifone that runs wet garbage. Android users have an app for that, Ifone users have to pay for that. :D

I definitely am happy with my Eris and with Android in general. So there are a few bugs, but really people...is it worth complaining over? Anything is better than the ridiculous iPhone. Heck, even with the silent call bug, we still get more use out of our phones as an actualy PHONE than iPhone users do on AT&T.

Yeah, the iPhone comparisons will always be around for Android users; we're on the sweet end of that stick, for sure, in my opinion. :)

But one thing about the Eris (I do not know about the Droid and other Android based devices) that really comes clear and just irks the heck out of me about every time I read in Eris forums is this: the apparent lack of quality control at the factories, the manufacturing and assembly points.

Evidence of this is the differences in (simply) the quality of the Eris as reported by users here; "the silent ringer bug," "the speaker bug," "the speed dial bug (resolvable in most cases with a factory data reset)," and many other issues posted in the forums in some devices but not in all of them.

Given that many, many "bugs" pan out to be user lack of knowledge and/or abuse or ill-use of the phone, there still seems to be differences in hardware quality from one Eris to another.

Mine, and others reporting in here, exhibits none of the spoken of bugs, not one.

Perhaps I should have a look over at the iPhone forums; maybe a similar situation with quality control is being talked about there.

Actually this post "explains" nothing. This release was poorly tested and there is no excuse for it.

Were there a few minor issues like the weather widget I would agree with your post. However the scope and number of major issues like loss of audio, browser crashes, wild app openings, and so on, is just poor testing. There are hundreds of user posts all having the same issues.

Thanks to all involved for making my eris a really nice paperweight.
