Im gonna try and revive the issue of the MTU settings.
i can connect and play alright, but maybe, the MTU settings are preventing xbox live from downloading updates for games and system?
anyone have a fix? workaround?
I'm on vista, connecting my xbox to the comp, and using internet connection sharing as usual, tethered to my G1
ive already tried changing the MTU settings via CMD console but it does nothing

why are you tethering to use xbox live?

*facepalm*

you know the carrier can charge you overages, kill your contract, and make you pay the etf for that? not worth it man. pay $20 a month for a broadband connection

another kool-aid drinker.... please to be posting proof that this happens. an article, someone's scanned bill that is really high due to tethering like you claim, a cancelled contract because of tethering.....

until then, you are merely passing along hearsay as fact.... very intellectually dishonest

How about you do a google search. Pretty simple.

Or even better. Read your contract, you know, that long letter that you signed when you got your phone? That.

or even better, realize, noone has been canceled or charged high amounts for tethering a droid to xbox like you imply.

That.

How about you do a google search first. Sprint, vzw, and att have all killed off contract of data abusers. And just because they don't aggresivly enforce it now doesn't mean they won't in the near future. The policies are in place, and they reserve the right to charge you overages as well. (I believe its something like $.49/mb) Is a $1kusd phone bill really worth the risk to you? You remind me of the person that says don't wear a seatbelt blah blah there's airbags and when you get into an accident the airbag snaps your neck because your not wearing a seat belt.

"do a google search" is the cry of the man who can't find the proof he claims their is.

you made the claim, you back it up

I don't have to. You do. It's your phone bill/credit, not mine. I'm just trying to help. And you jumping down my throat for stating a pure fact, something that is in YOUR contract and can/is/will be enforced at anytime, is just plain moronic. Ever hear of biting the hand that feeds you?

You need to do the research, your breaking your contract, not me. I am not your servant, noobcakes.

Get off your ass, stop watching sailor moon, and do something that's productive for yourself, instead of bashing people giving honest and true feedback, and expecting people to do all the work for your.

I guess that means you don't have any proof of this happening. lol just making sure.

you're the one making the claim that people are going to get billed.... has that happened to a droid user yet? Is there an article you have seen to make you believe that or do you just like to pass off hearsay and conjecture as the truth? Intellectual dishonesty at the least.... lieing at the worst. So tell me, which one of those two people are you

Part of your Term of Service: (Bold part added by me for emphasis)
"Your Wireless Device
Your wireless device is any device you use to receive our wireless voice or data service. It must comply with Federal Communications Commission regulations and be compatible with our network and your Plan. Whether you buy your wireless device from us or someone else is entirely your choice."

If you have paid for the tethering plan tether all you like. But if you have not bought the tethering plan then you are violating your Term of Service.

Now, so far I am not aware of Verizon catching anyone and punishing them yet. But, I suppose it is human nature to push the envelope and see how far one can go before one gets caught. Problem is, is enough people get caught Verizon will find a way to stop the rest of us from using 3rd party apps to tether. So speaking on behalf of those of us that do tether from time to time (I tether using PDAnet when I happen to be in a place without any internet, but that is not very often), please don't abuse your ability to tether with a 3rd party app. You may end up ruining it for the rest of us and that is just plain selfish. That's not to say, "Don't tether." Just please don't abuse it.

Essentially the freedom given to all of us with open source and ability to use 3rd party app needs to be self-controlled or we may start to slowly lose pieces of that freedom. Thank you!

technically, it wasn't kool-aid, it was flava-aid, or something like that, that had the poison that they all drank.... but i digress....

I've read it, you said that Verizon and others, were cracking down on that..... ok, I'm listening, do you have proof of that, or do you typically just try to lie to people?

If they are, surely there is an article somewhere about it, or someone would have posted a high bill, or a cancelled contract.

I'm just asking you to prove what you claimed as fact. and you can't do it. It's ok, noone on any Droid forum has been able to post that proof because it doesn't exist. I mean, you felt it necessary, on the second post of this thread to do the facepalm thing, then tell him he would get cancelled and have to pay an EFT. Yet, you can't prove it actually happens.... :D:D

But it's fun to watch you try to dig faster to try and get out of that hole you already dug.

Reading my contract has NOTHING to do with you backing up your claims..... I know what I'm doing is against the TOS, I don't care.... But I also didn't make the claim that something is happening when it's not, either.

strawman galore <---google that to figure out what it means bwahahaha

Well, don't come crying when you get your 1kusd bill. Vzw has done it, and in fact there was a huge issue with this in new england area. And it does matter, because it is not unlimited, unless your using 4G.

Oh and uh, I personally know someone who had 3 lines cancelled out of the blue because of said circumstance. But whatever dude, your acting like a fool, and people like you are why carriers are ushering in tiered data plans. So good job on ruining it for everyone.

I don't wish bad on many people but I seriously hope you get a 4+ figure bill from the carrier for data abuse. It would serve you, and your pompous attitude right.

I just spent like 15 minutes trying to find any articles saying someone's contract got canceled because of tethering, and I couldn't find that nor any instances of gigantic $1000 bills. I've got oodles of posts on message boards talking about the mythical bandwidth cap, and one guy saying they suddenly started charging him 15/mo.

My vote? VZW isn't run by Satan, if you buy PDAnet you can pretty easily plead ignorance since it IS an official app in the Android marketplace, requires NO rooting to work and is freely available to anyone who wants it. It's not like you used a DUN hack or something. If you get popped, just tell them you didn't think it would be an issue since it was an app you downloaded right from the marketplace.

According to the contract, it MIGHT be possible for them to do something about it, but I cannot find a SINGLE instance of it happening. And, dear IOWA, it's much harder to prove a negative than a positive, so really if you want to keep saying it happens, you gotta come up with some evidence. I can't find any, but no matter how long I look, I can't PROVE something has never happened. You, meanwhile, could easily prove it HAS.

My two cents.

Quit being lazy and do it yourself. Other wise what is being proven here is your agruing for the sake of arguing, and blatently lying to people too boot. I'm done here, I'm right, your wrong. Good day sir.

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

I have been, and like Mistermixelpix said, it ain't out there, yet you keep talking like it is.... which leads me to believe, you haven't seen anything either but have no problem believing other people's speculation and hearsay and try to pass it on yourself, as fact.

hint - 69Droid420 is not a reliable source..... chances are, your source is nothing more than a 16 y.o. kid who's mommy bought him the droid in the first place.

So, until a reliable source like CNN.business, NYTimes, Cnet, something, has some story about a huge bill, or you can find someone who has scanned their bill that proves your side, you are simply lieing everytime you say

pride goeth before a fall. your pride has been hurt because you're unable to prove what you spouted off as fact, now you try to spin it for us to prove you right because you can't.
