Finally i dont have to worry about the 2.1 bugs!!!!
So today i was on the phone with tech support about my eris.. I am so happy "eric" was able to help me cause i am ready to throw my eris out the window cruisin 90 down the freeway. Its frustrating when im listening to music with headphones in and i get a call, disconnect my earphones and the person calling me is like, HELLO ?? HELLO!!?? WTF?? HELLOOOO!!
haha
need less to say I was on the phone today for 2 hours trying to go through and get my phone to work..PROPERLY.
I explained my issues and he and i followed protocol and reset my eris, *228 opt 2 , etc etc. Well after all that my eris got worse!!
It went awol and kept rebooting on top of getting stuck in the dreaded 1x mode, with 1 bar!!! thats right 1 BAR!! on 1.5 i had 3-4 bars at any given time and never ran into the 1x thing but after factory wipe and tech support programming it got worse..
anyways I am sooooo happy im supposed to get a 1.5 eris hopefully tomarrow and first things first ...ROOT BABY!!
and believe me I love 2.1 but i would rather have an eris with no bugs and complete freedom!!

Be nice ladies and gentlemen I feel like a kid at Xmas eve and vzw is Santa lol

How long does vzw take to ship???
Overnight he said but i have a feeling ill be waiting till monday to get it ...
any thoughts??
thanks

Hi James. Great that you're getting what you want. :)

You were pretty eager to get a leak a while back ;)..

http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/50542-eris-2-1-leak-bugs-fixes-3.html#post405616

..and the OTA..

http://androidforums.com/updates-cupcakes/24622-eris-v2-x-when-75.html#post405848

..once you got the leak, you loved it..

http://androidforums.com/updates-cupcakes/24622-eris-v2-x-when-77.html#post406280

..and..

http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/50542-eris-2-1-leak-bugs-fixes-5.html#post407021

..then you began to change your mind about it..

http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-...is-2-1-os-coming-very-soon-11.html#post471148

..and then you went full circle..

http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-...is-2-1-os-coming-very-soon-11.html#post471332

I am with you, I loved 1.5 and wish the update was never even suggested let alone actually developed and sent to our phones.

But now I've found that 2.1 basically is 1.5 with a few minor changes in the looks of the OS and some minor improvements in its functionality (transitions from app to app and from menu item to menu item seem crisper), none of which are big deals or honestly worth much of the anticipation expressed around the forums.

My question to you is, why were you so eager for the leak and then for the OTA? I understand you wanting 1.5 back, I feel similar sometimes, but I never had the desire for 2.1.

Was your 1.5 lacking or buggy in some ways?

:D lmao too.

No, not "stalking," just recalling many users here with a similar experience and then posting about wanting what I want: 1.5 back.

I have not counted them (perhaps a poll is in order), but I'd guess there are a lot more who would like 1.5 back than we thought at first.

"Weird post?" I would think you'd have to bring your own weirdness to that post, LexusBrain;), in order to see weirdness in it; it's just a query about what brought him around full circle to wanting 1.5 over 2.1.

By the way, I believe that is the first time I've taken the trouble to find postings to support what I thought I remembered a member saying in here.

Frisco, If you want 1.5 back... Why are you still on 2.1? I ran OTA 2.1 for a week, went back to 1.5 and haven't looked back yet, I personally won't be upgrading back to 2.1 until I know Verizon has sent out a patch for all these bugs found in 2.1. And as for the notification being annoying is a lie, I only get the notification when I boot up..(In my eye's it's no worse than having to do the airplane trick for 2.1) which if your like me and have a bit of OCD, knowingly all well that the 50% time w/o doesn't effect anything but ya still gotta do the trick.

I want a rooted Eris. I will not cheat Verizon by making up a defect or bricking my phone, but I seem to be a lucky one who gets a phone that works perfectly. With that kind of luck, do I really want to risk getting a refurb that has that crappy sound bug?

I agree. I returned my phone and got a replacement, and I don't think I cheated Verizon, if anything Verizon cheated me, I had to deal with Sound Bug issue for way too long, and I need my phone to what do ya know, make phone calls... and for MY experience, the CS Rep was great, I didn't lie about anything, told him the truth and in came my replacement. As for taking the chance of it having the audio bug, simply send it back. When it gets refurbished that's what they do, fix all the hardware issues and now it sa replacement phone, chances are this replacement could have allready had the sound bug issue, and was fixed.

Good question, BlazeD OnE, and a question I was going to answer when I got a poll going about who else wants 1.5 back.

It is like this: 1.5 back/49%...keep 2.1/51%.

That percent keeping me on 2.1 is the improved smoothness going from menu item to menu item or from app to app, etc. The phone seems optimized, to me, just a little bit, and I say "just a little bit" because 1.5 did not need much in the way of optimization on my Eris.

I hope that explains why I'm keeping 2.1 while still "wanting 1.5 back." It seems contradictory, but is a bit like missing something that was replaced by something just enough better to probably not go back.

If any of the bugs cropped up that I read about in here, I'd instantly go back to 1.5. If it were the "silent phone" bug, I'd instantly go back to Verizon and demand a replacement device.

I very much do understand Frisco. as for myself, I was very excited about 2.1. For me, maybe the week I gave it wasn't enough, I thought it was, but the biggest things I was noticing, were little things that bug me the most. when on the phone, the speaker has this kind of echo.. something I really took note of in 2.1, and when I went back to 1.5.. wasn't there, so that proved it was software issue not hardware related. another little thing that just irked me. With the phone being in sleep. When pushing the power button to awake the phone, the soft keys would take 15-20 secs. to light up, well into the phone being unlocked. so I downgraded, tried it out, and bang with 1.5 the soft buttons light up instantly. I tried thinking of ways that this was put into 2.1 for a reason, and I couldn't come up with anything. Also on 2.1 I noticed the market being slowwwwwwwwww, scrolling through apps, the pictures for the apps wouldn't appear. I thought maybe its my 3g, so turned on wifi, same deal, downgraded, and with 1.5 no lag at all market wayyy noticeably faster. So to me with these little problems I came to the conclusion that 2.1 wasn't meant for the Eris. I could be very wrong of coarse, But for me until they patch out an update it's 1.5 for this guy. Let me know if you notice any of my problems with your 2.1. TIA, sorry about the longgg post.

Don't apologize about a long post, BlazeD OnE; I love long, explanatory postings that are not mere rants. Lot's of information there.

I'm sorry but I do have to ask the question I ask nearly everyone with OTA problems: did you try doing the factory data reset? If not, there is a good chance it could have swept away most if not all of your software related problems.

If you did the reset and the problems reared their ugly head, the return to 1.5 is exactly what I would have done, given the bugs were not hardware but software related as you say.

No, you did not cheat them. That is a legitimate issue and I would take my phone back, immediately, if I knew that this existed on mine.

As for refurb, you would hope that things are completely restored or replaced, but this is not always the case. One scenario being that you get a 1.5 phone and the sound bug doesn't exist until you upgrade to 2.1. They had no way of knowing that when they refubed.

I did the factory reset a few times, trying it out for a day without any apps at all and not upgading maps and facebook. still same issues.

Sometimes I wonder about corrupt downloads (of the OTA), when I read about issues such as yours.

The factory data reset does not redo the OTA; I'm curious if Verizon would be willing to offer you another OTA.. or if you have attempted the downloaded, linked version of 2.1.

I actually first manually installed 2.1 OTA, took note of all issues, downgraded to 1.5 to compare, had the 2.1 notification immediately upon returning to 1.5. Eventually gave in to the "official" 2.1 and same issues.

I wasn't completely paying attention, but I could have sworn that one thing the OTA did was check the download before the install. I assume that means checking some sort of digital signature before installing. Just the fact that it is delivered as a zip container, and the container expands without error, suggests to me that file corruption of the download is extremely unlikely.

That's a good point about the checking step in the OTA process. I watched the whole thing and was glad it was doing that.

However I have had "good" files come along which would not function as well as another copy of the same ones (talking mostly very old linux iso images, but also some Netscape zips, etc..).

Most often we would not know who or what to blame, as the files would be exactly the same size. MD5 checksum was not even in the picture then.. so it remained a mystery.
