So now that I'm Rooted-

I may seem to miss what I've gained as a general user besides the loss of all my data.

I've still got ads, and half the apps I used don't work on the rooted phone.

I want to also remove the apps that I DON'T use, such as amazon mp3.

Is there an 'after root' guide of any sort? Anything cool I should look for and install or do? Any tricks, etc?

You should get Cyanogen 4.2.3.1, that will give you Donut (1.6) and all of the apps you should need, anything you had downloaded from the market you can get again by going to "My Downloads" and it will have a list of them.

http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/update-cm-4.2.3.1-signed.zip

Thats what I have. 4.2.3.1. Anything i had previously was wiped out, and not in the list of downloads.

Alot of applications I did have are NOT working now that I'm rooted.

Better Keyboard- which I bought before and now it's telling me I have to buy it again, which really makes me mad because I'm not going to go and pay for those apps AGAIN.

And Phonebook which just forcecloses.

I'm sure there's more but I'm so frustrated and annoyed and disappointed after the root I haven't found them all.

There's no real straight answer or a guide to follow after rooting. Nobody's shown any kind of anything really to me. Nor has anyone answered my question about those stupid programs i want to get rid of, and the ads.. etc.

Ads? What ads? I have 4.2.3.1 and NO ads or trouble with my contacts force closing. If you can't find your paid purchases then try contacting Google and they will be able to help you get them back. I wonder if you had some type of error with rooting because I have never heard of getting any ads. Also a much better option then better keyboard is the HTC_IME I will get a link to download it in a few minutes, you can then put it on your sd card and get a app from the market called "Apps Installer" and it will let you install it.

I hate the android contacts app. I've been using phonebook since I got my phone, and now it's not working- it just forcecloses. I've tried re-installing it a few times.

Well they might not have updated it for 1.6. You could check and see if there is a update for it. But what ads are you talking about because I have never seen one in Android. Also to delete apk's you don't want I think you need to use adb or possibly in terminal there might be some commands that will delete them. Did you try the HTC_IME keyboard?

I used the HTC keyboard when I had 1.5, and then it stopped working for 1.6

I have ads, I guess it's application specific- they come up in some apps, some not.

Well sorry to inform you but I just checked out phonebook in the market and everyone says it is force closing since the 1.6 update. So root didn't mess it up, but the developer hasn't updated it to work with Donut yet.

Nope, I used it in 1.6- infact the 1.5 version closed in 1.6, and an update fixed that.

And the HTC keyboard you just sent me isn't working. I installed it and selected it in text and locale- go to type a message and its the same old keyboard.

Did you de-select the Android keyboard? I don't know what to tell you about phonebook, but it definitely does not work with 1.6, a ton of people have complained about force closes in 1.6 just like your getting. That is the same apk I used for HTC_IME so it does work fine as long as you select it properly and de-select the others (it comes up as "Touch Input"). Free versions of some apps have ads so the only way to get rid of those is to buy the paid version.

Well did you actually get the Donut 1.6 update from your provider? I know it was only out a few weeks maybe a month ago. You sure your not confusing 1.5 with it? I do see that the developer for phonebook had a pre-cupcake (1.5) version and then updated when cupcake was released.

Oh yeah, I got 1.6 right on my phone-

I'm playing with an un-rooted mt3g right now that belongs to a friend and phonebook runs just fine.

Does the mt3g have 1.6? Check the firmware version to be sure. All I can say is if you go to market and read the comments you will see everyone complaining about force closes with 1.6.

Yes, it's 1.6

I'm telling you I have physically had 1.6 and phonebook working at the same time.

On my phone, and now on a friends phone.

I got 1.6 the day AFTER it came out, updated it through the phone.

It worked 100% until i rooted.

Also ahome is also forceclosing now.

Well I don't use phonebook normally but I tried it just for kicks and got a force close. Maybe it works for some and not others, but the comments for it in the market all say they have force close issues also ever since 1.6. aHome I don't use so I couldn't say, but you can now flash a true theme anyway so not much need for it anymore.

Yes.

You dont have to do anything except tell it to download and tell it that its ok to reboot to install.

If you use Cyanogen Updater, there are themes made just for his roms. They will be listed in the updater.

You have to have a Cyanogen updater compatble rom running already. Check this link for more info.

CyanogenMod | Android Community Rom based on Donut tree.
