Help Where do apps get installed?

I know where the apps get stored/saved at, /data/apps & /data/apps-private, but where do the apps {.apk} files get installed/extracted at on these phones, I have the htc hero (rooted).

or does the phone not extract the apk files, & reads them directly from the apk?

I don't think they are extracted in any manner. Pushing and pulling apps consists of pushing and pulling their apks. Thats all

HI, can u tell me where they get installed. Im facing the same issue. I actually have to call those files from another application..

by the way... it would be much more helpful to actually say where rather than 'I found it'
