HTC Desire v Samsung Galaxy I90000

Sanding Galaxy S looks brilliant. I am looking to change phone (iPhone now) but I'm getting concerned a bit about the Desire. Is the speaker so bad, and is the screen really terrible in sunlight!?

The Galaxy has a Super AMOLED display and that looks great. Only issue is it's exclusive to Vodafone, not sure about Vodafone in the South West!!

It has a larger screen,

Plus it's super AMOLED.

I would say this would be one of the main reasons why some people will want to buy this phone.

GSM arena have given a full review of this handset and are raving about the screen amongst other features of the phone. Some are saying it could dethrone the Desire as the best android phone at present.

I must confess to being interested in the Galaxy purely because I've read many posts about the iffi signal strength on the desire.

Most of the time I am in a very good signal area but for a few days each month I am in a poor signal area and don't have a landline backup, so I must have a phone with good signal recognition.

Having read the review I get the impression that as a phone for making and receiving calls, the Galaxy is the better unit, but from the comments about looks and build quality I would prefer to have the Desire.

As I can't change my contract until after the 6th June, it looks like many more hours reading posts on the internet.:D

I have an HTC Desire. The screen in super bright sunlight is not great, it's usable; it's just really reflective.

I haven't had any issues with any of the speakers or reception.

I personally like Samsung phones but I like HTC more. :)

I would take a gander at the TouchWiz UI and see what you think, compare it to the Sense UI.

I use Vodafone UK for my provider here and so far it's been great. Then again I am using an unlocked Desire and I can drop Vodafone anytime I want and switch to another.

Good luck!

PS I switched from an IPhone and I haven't missed a single thing. :)

I sure am ;)

I'm keeping the Desire, which is a testament to how excellent it is, I'll just hand it on to my GF so I can play with around with it and Paul's upcoming 2.2 port.

Basically I got an X10 filthy cheap, selling for profit and will buy the Galaxy S with that money.

I usually go through 4-6 handsets a year, this year is one with a lot of interesting phones, last year not so much...

EDIT: I generally wouldn't advise trying to keep up!

I was hoping to get my Desire from Clove on a short visit to Scotland. Now the shipment is late to arrive.

Galaxy due to arrive on 31 May.
What to do?

Is the build quality of Samsungs really bad?
Worse than HTC?

How about upgrading?
Been on the Desire board for about a month.
Seems like most do not expect an upgrade to 2.2 very soon.

Does Samsung upgrade quicker???

Need to change my order soon if it's to be the Galaxy.

On paper the Galaxy looks to be an awesome phone, but how do you see it compare with the Desire from what you may have seen or read about the Galaxy?

Just interested in peoples thoughts and opinions on the subject.

Have neither phone but my experience with the Samsung Galaxy has totally put me off Samsung phones. Froyo is out and Gingerbread is coming at the end of the year. How fast will samsung update their phones. We know HTC is working on Froyo for the desire.

noone seems to mentioned about the 16gb that comes with galaxy?

I am looking to buy a new phone, still deciding between galaxy and desire.

cant seem to find any forums or threads about both UIs? there are lots of focus on the hardware such as super amoled screens, processors etc.

Can someone help me out with the Userinterface? i know the touchwiz sucks but i heard the 3.0 version is a lot better and can be comparable to sense? this is from cnet if im not wrong (one of the few measely paragraphs about ui as emphasis are placed on hardware)

lastly, does 16gb not matter? whats the use of having an awesome screen, camera etc if you cant really store media content? esp HD size content? desire is limited to 32gb micro sd card true? while galaxy is also limited to 32gb micro sd card + the 16gb that comes with the phone = 48gb. true? does this not matter?? everyone streaming their media from the web out there or something? am i missing something here?

thanks guys and NZtf, i am really looking forward to your review on both phones esp on the UI!! :)
