Apps for Catholics

There currently are a few applications for Catholics on Android but a couple of holes remain that are glaring. First, there is not real Bible app yet on Android. As a Catholic I do not believe that the collection of 66 books that protestants use is the Real Bible. All of the current "bible" apps on Android actually use 66 book protestant thing which of course is completely unacceptable to any Christian.

It would be really nice to get a Catholic Bible app that has all 73 books of the Bible in a proper translation. (obviously kjv is not a proper translation). There is a really great application that works well in Windows and in Wine called Vulsearch which has the Bible in both Latin and English. It would be good enough to simply get an android version of that but if Syriac could be included that would also be good.

Next, I have noticed that there is already an app for showing the ordo of the Mass but it is defective and does not work. Also, it is the older ordo and while I have absolutely nothing at all against the older ordo it would be nice to have the newer one as well. Also since the app for the older ordo is currently defective, that means that there is really NO App At All to fill this need.

Lastly, there is a Latin translation program called Whittaker's Words. Again it works in Windows but interestingly it works better using it in a terminal on Unix under wine because that way you can copy and paste things into the app which you can't do on Windows. It seems to me that it is a pretty simple program that should be able to run on android. Even if it can't run, one could at least make a Latin to English dictionary from the data files supplied for compiling the program.

Both Vulsearch and Words are opensource programs with nothing legally holding them back from being ported are remade for Android.

I’m not sure if you are aware about this, but there is in fact a ‘Catholic Bible’ app available on Android which contains the 73 books of the Bible. What’s more, this app allows you to post a verse of your choice on Facebook. This app provides access to the Douay-Rheims translation of the Bible. You can access any chapter of the Bible using this app.
