Switching to Sprint for the Evo 4G... Questions..

Hey guys,

I'm new here and not sure where to post these questions, so i felt Lounge was best.

Okay, I have recently gotten interested in the Android OS. Everything just seems a whole lot better than the iPhone OS.

So right now, I have a 3GS on ATT. I REALLY want to get the Evo 4G. I can sell my iPhone anywhere from $400-$450 because its in MINT condition. So that would cover the early term. fee on ATT and the phone cost at Best Buy/Shack. I have been with an iPhone since late 08 and have had it jailbroken since day 1. I am loving my iPhone, but its getting a bit old and Android seems to provide that "wow" factor and the "new phone" factor with each Update.

I am ready to pull the trigger right now and sell this iPhone before the "new" iPhone is announced/released. But that brings me to my next few questions...
-Should I maybe see what the new iPhone will bring?
-Is ATT going to get its 'flagship' Android phone with the power of the Evo and the Incredible? Streak? Aero? HTC?

Another factor on the Evo... My nickname is Evo, so kinda goes hand n hand. (hint my username haha)

Sorry for the long post and the questions, I just want to know that I am making a decision that I end up regretting.

Thanks

There is an Evo section where these questions may be better answered :)

HTC EVO 4G - Android Forums

Hopefully a mod can move this topic.

As far is AT&T going to get a flagship Android device, I've heard they're going to get the Samsung Galaxy S, but Samsung is tight-lipped about where it will end up, and more importantly when. But it should be a very high quality phone.

Hope you end up with an Evo though!

You can always wait and see what the new iPhone will bring, but keep in mind we already have a good idea of what is coming in iPhone 4.0. Undoubtedly the new hardware will add some extra fun to the mix, but I doubt they'll do anything that is astounding. Plus the longer you wait, the less money you'll get selling your current iPhone. Also don't forget that all new iPhone contracts (which will apply if you upgrade to the next iPhone) have a raised ETF of $350. So if you go with the phone, get bored, you'll be out a whole lot more money to break your contract than you would be right now.

I wouldn't recommend getting an Android phone from AT&T because AT&T are locking down part of what makes Android so great, it's openness. I'm not sure if you've heard, but the only Android phone currently available for AT&T, the Motorola Backflip, has had the "Unknown Sources" feature taken away. What this feature does is allow you to install apps from sources other than the android market. Now it's true that many people don't really need to install from other sources, but the principle is what really bothers me. Now there are ways around this by rooting your backflip and installing custom roms, but I don't want to get into that here.

PS. I also want to add that Sprint currently has a completely risk free period of 30 days from when you sign up. Meaning that you can get the Evo, try it for 30 days, and if you're not satisfied with your device/service, you can cancel and not only get your money back for the phone, but they'll waive all charges you've already accrued. So unless you go over your plan minutes, etc, your whole test period was completely free. So you really have nothing to lose by trying the Evo.

Timing is right for you. Android and its market have matured to the point where they can truly compete with iPhone. Depending on your location you should be fine on Sprint- better than ATT. You are likely to have better phone coverage and comparable if not better 3g coverage. 4g is still iffy depending on location. You will be thrilled with the openness and customization features Android offers, even compared to a jailbroken iPhone.

One factor related to the openness is that Apple keeps things tight for a reason. iPhones almost always run smooth and glitch free. You may have a glitch or two especially running apps outside the market or rooting your phone. These are usually pretty minor though.

All in all you will pay less for service, have a more open device, and get some of the features RUMORED to be on iPhone 4.0 NOW instead of at the end of summer.

Enjoy!

4G is supposed to be out here in Denver by the end of the year so I can take full advantage of the 4G by the end of the year.

I have my iPhone jailbroken so I have had a few crashes of the springboard and such (actually a lot).

But thanks for the post. I agree with you on the iPhone 4.0. Plus, the new "multi-tasking" isn't true multi-tasking, its more of a cache saved of the app. or something like that.

I do agree timing is right!
