HTC Legend or HTC Desire ?

I considered both and plumped for the Desire (from a Hero). The reason? The Legend looks lovely, but spec wise it is only a small step above a Hero. The Desire however is a leap forward (and it shows in using it). I wanted a phone that would be able to throw anything lobbed at it for a year or so, and while that is nigh on impossible in this market seemingly, the Desire offered the best bet for a little bit more money. Oh and the screen is bigger.

Both have 512MB, and both are expandable to 32GB with a micro SD.

I reckon for you, the Legend is the way to go; it does the job brilliantly, and looks great.
Personally, the 600MHz processor would bug me after a while, because if you think about it, you'll have the phone for 18/24 months, and over that time, installing apps, deleting them, filling up your messages, phonebook and everything else; so the bigger the processor, the better the unit will 'manage' the running of the tasks.

If you're looking at a 'stylish' desire, I think the black one is cool; not as pretty as the legend though...
Decisions, decisions!

I have another question.

See because these phones update (Twitter, Facebook weather app, etc...) themselves, if you have an unlocked version of it and use a pay as you go sim card, will it use up your money to update these apps ?

yes i think so but dont quote me on that, you may be able to change the settings so facebook etc dnt update as often

It will if you get charged for data on your tariff, you can turn sync off though and / or disable the mobile network unless you specifically want it on to do something to ensure you don't get any surprises. There are also some handy apps to track data usage too like 3G watchdog.

I can't see the appeal of the Legend myself..

It has one pro, the pretty alu case.

The Desire has a bigger screen, higher res, faster processor..

Every Legend/Droid/etc purchased slows progress for games that take advantage of the higher specced phones :p

Is there a large price difference?

I was in the same boat, torn between the two for about 3 weeks.

Played with both phones extensively side by side for an hour or two, on two different days.

Went for the Legend in the end. Build quality and looks won for me.
I actually got the Black Desire and sold it in order to obtain the Legend!

Obviously the Desire has better specs and does offer more future proofing but then I knew I wouldn't be keeping whichever handset I chose for more than 12 months [maybe 18 at a push]. ...and knowing the Legend will be more than enough until then meant there was no reason to not chose it :).

Do not regret the choice one single bit :D.
