it wont let my texts reply to one person?

I have found a problem with the texting, but for the life of me i cant work out why..

I am using handcent for texting, and when i text most people its fine. but for one of my mates it wont let me send any texts back. everytime i try and reply at the bottom of the thread, it immediately gives me a notification to say that the message did not go through, though it does not explain why not.

if i forward the message to him, it works fine. i have deleted him from my sim contacts, from my phone contacts, and put him back in. i have deleted him from facebook, and put him back in. i just dont know what is wrong with it?

any one else have this happen to them?

Its to do with his number not having a + at the start of it on facebook. So you can either ask him to edit his number in face book and that will fix the problem, or you can unlink him from facebook on your phone and that will fix the problem. Pain in the arse, but thats how I solved mine!

I've been strugging with this problem for ages, I've unlinked it from their facebook profile on my phone, gone into their facebook settings on the website with them and actually deleted their number from there, and still I can't reply to them sometimes. It seems to be really hit and miss and not linked with signal as I have full bars while it's happening.

Any ideas?

I've been on the phone with both HTC and TMobile loads and just seem to be going round in circles.

I have the same issue and wonder if its something to do with the way an sms thread has been imported/formatted into the phone.

I migrated my old sms into my Desire, 2.1 and have several contacts that I cannot reply to in an sms thread, but if I open their contact details I can send them a message from their contact page.

Have you migrated sms messages from another platform. It would be interesting to find a common fault.

I think that might work for the OP however I have quite a significant amount of my contacts that I cannot reply to via sms.

I think I'll give that a go as a test for one contact. However thread preservation is important so I'll probably favour sms history over being able to reply if it comes down to it. I think everyone's ideal outcome would be to keep the sms archive and to be able to reply.

Ok, quick update. It definitely has something to do with the formatting. I decided to go back to my old PIM backups from WM6.5. Stupidly I saved them out in binary format so I couldn't convert them, so I restored them to my old phone, then installed the sprite software and saved all the data out; contacts, call history, SMS, etc. Then I used their conversion software and subsequent migration software to restore to android.

Inevitably there was a little correction to do with some of the names, but it was pretty much intact. I tried replying to old threads ( ones which didn't previously let me reply to) and it worked. So all is happy... sort of. Somewhere in the migration my telephone numbers have all inherited dash separators for american area codes.

So I need to find a way to take these out.

Also... the sprite software when restoring seems to put everything into "google" rather than "phone" contacts. Call me a stickler but I'd rather have everything backed up to the phone first then I'll think about whether I want it backing up to google. Last time I let it do that it totally made a mess of all my facebook linked contacts and i just ended up with lots of duplicate contacts that had to be merged.

So, Transferring from "google" to "phone".... how hard could that be? There isn't an option for transfer from the one to the other. The way I did it was to export to the sd card, delete the "google" contacts, then import from sd card and it gives you the choice of whether you want it under "phone" or "Sim" etc.

Then once i was happy I did a full backup with mybackup pro. Being a long time user of activesync and outlook I was appalled to see how bad the HTC sync is. In every configuration i tried it either wiped contacts from outlook, or wiped them from the phone. I wouldn't trust it.

So, I can reply to texts now. I know how I did it, but I don't know why it worked.

I have the same problem, but it just happens to be my girlfriend, who i text the most. :(

I have a work around. When i receive a text from her, i have a quick text icon on the home page, so i send a text from there and it sends everytime. If i try to reply to her text, it will 90% fail. It's damn annoying, but i do get to keep the thread history of the SMS.

NX1977 I'd love to know of a program for windows mobile that can bluetooth the contacts, sms, and call logs to the desire ! That would have saved a lot of fannying about. However I do like the idea of having a local file copy, as sometimes I get annoyed and then "etch-a-sketch" delete everything and start again. If I'd have just bluetoothed them to the phone I might have lost them.
