i can't wait till tomorrow!

I heard some stores MIGHT let a few go Thursday, but I imagine you would have to have a cool rep at the store and live in a area that is expecting a high turnout for Friday.

I may have a cool rep. I don't really know since I'm switching from another company and don't really have a rep yet. But the one guy I spoke with and emailed claimed that he is going to hold a Droid for me and I don't think they are allowed to do that either. I'm going to go visit him in person tomorrow and see if I can get a sense of when.

I preordered at Best Buy and was told that I would be called as soon as the phone comes it. According to the guy I talked to he would even call me if it were to come in tomorrow or any time before Friday.

That will really put a damper on the midnight party that someone posted about down in Texas. It might irritate some folks who are planning to camp out Thursday night to be there first thing as well. I think it would be wise if they stopped being so, so secretive. They need to just put it out there; yes or no. Not maybe.

Don't read too much into that and get your hopes up.

Best buy is accepting preorders, but that doesn't mean they are going to be receiving any special amount above and beyond what they were going to be getting. Consequentially, what will be happening is this:

You preorder the phone and your name gets added to the list.

Best buy starts calling people on the list when they receive their phones and scheduling an appointment with you to have your phone picked up. Once they run out of phones, that preorder list is meaningless. Everyone else on the list will have to wait until the next order.

So basically, if they get 10 phones in tomorrow, they will call 10 people on the list tomorrow and tell them their phone is in. Then they will set an appointment with you for Friday when you can come and get it.

The fact that they are calling you has nothing to do with when you can come get it. The date for that is still Friday. (or later if they run out of stock before your name is reached on the list.)

Sorry.

[rant on] I couldn't agree more about the whole secretive thing. I have preordered at Best Buy but I was over at the mall today with my wife and took the opportunity to stop by to see the Verizon Wireless boys.

I asked about the release of the Droid and he said that he couldn't confirm that it would be available on November 6th as he was unsure. I told him that it had been announced and he asked a co-worker and she confirmed it for him. I then asked if they would be opening at 6:00am on Friday and he said that they would open at 7:00am. The girl working next to him corrected him and told him that they would be opening at 6:00am. Finally I asked if he knew the full retail price and he didn't but suggested it would be between $499 and $599. Heck, the guy I pre-ordered from suggested that full retail might be $699.

So...what is up with the super secret double probation stuff? I really don't get it. The Droid will be available on Friday...they should have all of the information that they require to sell in their "systems" by now.

And yes...I understand that not every clerk that is selling phones is as interested in them as we are but the guy that I was talking to at the mall is very informed about what is going on as I have had several conversations with him about the Storm and the Storm2. [/rant off]

Sunking... there are hundreds of posts around the net confirming all the answers to 90% of what you want to know. There is nothing "secret" going on. The people at the stores just don't always know. You have to remember... for most of them, this is nothing more than a job. They don't care what they are selling... only that they are making money. They will only know the answers on the day the phone is up for sale. Stop worrying about it. Verizon Wireless (Customer support) can answer all of your questions. The phone WILL be selling on Nov 6th, and VZ does not anticipate stock will run out.

I would suggest that you put your mind at ease and just call VZ direct if you don't believe the confirmed reports around the net. ;)

As mentioned in my post above, I understand that not everyone is as interested in this as we are. I have read all of the information that I can find and am not at all worried about it. I'll have one in my hot little hands come Friday morning, that is all that I need to know. :)

What I don't understand is why Verizon would not be better educating their employees. Verizon has a huge television ad campaign going and it is only going to drive potential customers into their stores to ask questions of their employees. These employees are either playing possum and not answering or are not educated. These potential customer walk out of the stores confused, misinformed or worse (from Verizon's perspective) and looking for another solution. :(

I knew the answers to the questions that I was asking and I guess I was only talking to the guy because I have spoke to him before about upcoming phones and since he was always knowledgable before and thought I might get a good conversation going with him.

Yep...Friday is coming...

I got the very distinct impression that they are "not allowed" to give any but the very basic information. The first Verizon store that I went to and asked about the Droid after the ads started the reps acted clueless. I said, "I probably know more about this phone than you do." That hurt their feelings, I think. One woman said, "Well I'm not allowed to give you any details but...." Another rep said, "But you're giving details." She didn't really say too much but they all wanted to brag just a bit about the training they had been to. Days later I stopped by the mall and the rep wasn't very forthcoming. I said, "Have you been to the training yet?" He said, "How do YOU know about the training?" It's stuff like that that makes it annoying. It seems more like a "hype game" than a real product release. I could trust the judgement of the powers that be if they didn't make it seem so much like a game.

I was talking to one rep in sept that said they were coming out with a phone that would trump the i phone and she was excited, but that is all she would say so I know they have known for alot longer then they are letting on. I love phonearena.com they have a section on upcoming verizon phones lol I would go into my store and pull it up on their demo laptop and leave with it pulled up lol ain't I a stinker:D

mh i'm not even sure, it's a brand new store that just opened like a week ago. but i think you might be right with your guess that it is "only" an authorized reseller.

you should be able to tell by going to verizonwireless.com and clicking on store locator and see what stores come up near you. it seems like it only shows corporate stores and you have to click on another link to see resellers.
