Cookbook Rescue Needed

Now that google has pulled froyo (for whatever reason) I think the people that provided all of the cookbook update instructions should also provide cookbook instructions for people to restore back to 2.1. I'm not suggesting that everyone should roll back but I'm seeing a lot of helps going out right now. Some can't get back into their phones and some are simply having a bad 2.2 experience.

It would have been nice if the folks that put this stuff out there in the first place gave instructions and recommendations on how to backup and restore and suggested that this be done before attempting the upgrade.

Why don't you put up instructions on how to roll back if you are worried about it?

People posted instructions on how to upgrade for people willing to take the risk. They aren't servants. They are taking their own time to post these things up, saying what they "should" do is quite rude in my opinion.

That being said, I'm also pretty sure that people did post how to make a backup before you applied the upgrade just in case. I know I did right here:

I dont think the average user wants to root his phone. So if there isnt a simple way of backing up then someone should warn people that this isnt for the novice user. They should really advise people that the phone should be backed up and if you arent up to rooting your phone and going through a lot of technical steps then the manual update shouldn't be attempted.

That being said, users may be in the same boat when they attempt the OTA when it comes unless that also has a recovery script as part of the process. At least it will fall on the vendor if that process crashes.

That refers to the download that is gone from their servers. I don't know what the status is of the OTA or if thats even the same version. I've heard that it isnt but I can't verify that one way or the other.

well non rooted users were able to do this. I think they shouldnt of. We rooters can nandroid and stuff so its not bad for us. As far as the links being dead, i highly doubt it. Check here,xda,modaco, google it, im sure its out there. As for if its the official version? No one knows, but us rooters will be able to easily convert. The question is, for the people that manually updated, will they get an OTA if that wasnt the official version since they are running 2.2 already?

I'm not a rooter but I tend to agree with your remarks.

Yes, I also agree that once a file has been posted to the web it cant ever be totally eliminated. But its apparently gone form the google servers.

I also hope that if a different 2.2 is pushed out that it can be used. Seems like these versions should have at least had a minor release number associated with the update?

Does that go for the OTA ROM update as well?

Give me break, jerk. Do you think most of the people who installed 2.2 were originally rooted?

I do feel that some people (this forum and other tech bloggers) have been a little irresponsible in perhaps, posting insufficient information with their "hey guys, grab this froyo update quick", without actually pointing out the potential downsides........at least I and others, were a little more specific.

But then again, you can say the same for the people who were not rooted and forced the update anyway (but that is not to say that I do not feel sorry for you now if you are having issues with 2.2). Only if you are rooted, can you go backwards.

ya it does go for the OTA update, unless it comes down to your phone without you doing anything you have no business manually installing unless you know what you're doing.
Not trying to be a dick, I was just reading some other post somewhere else about the same thing, got a little carried away. My comments were uncalled for, I apologize.
It's easy to learn everything you need to know about all this stuff. All it takes is some time and patience.

My issue isn't whether you want to root, or whether you installed the update. Its the fact that you said it was the people who posted the update tutorials responsibility to post how to revert back. That is just wrong. They did something to help the community, anything that happens while you mess with your phone is purely YOUR responsibility. You have to be careful and understand the risks before you do anything. The fact that you are almost demanding that they explain how to revert back rather than ask for help just kinda irked me.
