Imagio or Droid.....

I brought the Imagio and now looking to get the Droid....... The Imagio is a good phone, but wanted a phone with a real keyboard. Just hoping the Droid is worth it, because want it to be the last phone I get for a while.

The biggest deciding factor for me is the google navigation. I hate to drive somewhere new unless I know exactly where I am going. I had a Mio which was nice but they wanted as much as I paid for the device in order to upgrade the maps. Then I got an Ipaq with Tom Tom but you have to pay for new maps there as well. Having that all in a phone and FREE and real time traffic issues is a huge benefit, at least for me.

I'm not optimistic about WinMo's future, given the iPhone and Android squeeze that is going to ensue very shortly.

Also, I have friends who've had WinMo phones and they advised me against the Imagio, so that was pretty important too.

In the end, it was most important/interesting to me to go w/android, since it looks like one of the key future paths.

If you're thinking about switching to the droid just for the physical keyboard, I would high recommend against it. Practically every reviewer (including me) has said that the keyboard is difficult to use. The flat keys make it very easy to press two buttons at once.

If however, you're switching because you don't like WinMo, or you see Android as the future- then go right ahead.

I had a HTC Touch Pro 2, had to get a replacement and was replaced with the Imagio. Imagio isn't a bad phone but the lack of a keyboard vs. what I had (TP2) upset me a bit. I called Verizon and they pretty much told me to call back in a few weeks and see what was available. Friday, I will be going to the local Verizon store and see if they will honor what telesales told me and upgrade me to the Droid.
I've been looking at the apps available vs windows mobile and I am much happier with what is available vs windows and the overall look and feel of the apps vs. windows mobile. Also being an open platform, I expect to see a lot more being developed with all the new Android phones coming out. Hopefully someone comes up with a decent finance tracking app like spb finance or pocket quicken. Haven't been able to find one I like yet but thats pretty much it. I'm waiting with baited breath for Friday to get rid of my Imagio.

I have a friend that had one of those. I can see why it would leave a sour taste in your mouth. He loved it but no way I could have used it. The Touch Pro 2 is probably the best winmo phone out there and I was pretty happy with it but I'm glad my turn of events happened and will be getting a Droid. I agree, android is the future.

I think Blackberry will continue to be around because so many businesses use them. I think Android will take off now with the release of so many new handsets on multiple carriers. Win Mo and Palm are going to be the small players and one or both of them will have to go away. It seems that one of , if not the most important aspects of Smart Phones is app support. Palm's webOs is really solid, but is not complete and lacks app support. So I don't see it growing at all. Win Mo will probably stick around because MS will continue to push it - but it needs a complete overhaul.

Windows Mobile will not be dieing anytime soon. To many business users need it. Plus with WM7 coming next year it will have the overhaul you say it needs.

Check out Mint on Android, I have it on my iPhone and it's free and awesome. Web version as well. I'm also wavering between the Imagio and Droid. My techie side wants the Droid, my responsible side wants the Imagio. I'm coming from an iPhone that was hacked for tethering. Droid won't offer tethering and Imagio does it out of the box. I don't mind paying for it, but I need it. Is the Imagio really so bad? My husband says I'll be crying in my pillows at night if I get the WinMo phone after an iPhone. I played with the Imagio in the store and was suprised at how responsive the screen was.

I am personally delighted with my Imagio. There is a free app to turn your phone into a wireless router, no verizon fee needed. There is just as much customization available as android. You should really try it. And if you don't like it, return it in 30 days!

I was almost ready to return it and get the Droid merely for the better specs, but after trying the droid out in a store, I decided it was not worth the (imo) crappy keyboard and camera.

Mint does not yet have an Android app. They have only developed an iPhone app. I received the following response when I requested one:

Thanks for your request to see Mint.com on other mobile platforms besides iPhone. Eventually, we plan to support any mobile platform adopted by a significant percentage of our users. In the meantime you can access Mint.com on any mobile browser, or via SMS text-message: Just text ‘bal’ to shortcode ‘MYMINT (696468).

Actually just returned my Imagio a couple hours ago due to having to get the phone back before my 30 day worry free ended.

Overall the Imagio is a great phone. It just has a memory leak that bothered me to no end... phone was running idle at 75% even with the memory allocation programs running in the background. Due to phone just being overall not really snappy... im ready for my droid.

if the droid had not been announced tho... i would have been very happy with the Imagio, droid just seems too good to pass up as long as the opportunity presents itself and its feature set is more your style

The Imagio would be a decent phone if there wasn't such a horrible memory leak and a physical keyboard. but then it would be a touch pro 2.

What's the deal with Verizon and the Touch Pro 2? You can't get them anymore, they had them out for about a month, until the Imagio came out and they now show they are out of the TouchPro2. I'd love to try that before the Droid comes and then make a decision. Anyone know if you can tether from that like the Imagio?

I really liked my TP2 and now that it's unlocked it is much better. Yes, you can teather from the TP2 also. I used a program called WMwifirouter. I use it on my Imagio also and it works great.
I've already called my Local verizon store to verify that they will have the Droid on Friday (Everyone at this store are blackberry drones), they said they would have it and will be open at 7am. I'm bringing my Imagio in and asking for the Droid as a replacement. If they don't give me a Droid (which I would prefer) They are going to have to cough up another TP2.
I have a weird feeling VZW is going to push android based phones real hard and that may be the reason behind the low stocks of TP2's and now even Imagio's.
