Erm...that's not true, unless you're also making a substantial change to your plan. I've currently got 450 min + unlimited data + unlimited text on at&t for $89.99. Sprint with the Evo will give the same thing for $79.99. That's a savings of $240 over two years.
I'm eager to get the Evo and switch to Sprint, but the amount of money I'm saving - especially thanks to the additional $10/mo Evo fee - won't amount to much.
Well, it's not really "the same thing" in three important ways:
1) N&W start at 7, and calls to cell phones on any carrier are free - for most people this amounts to hundreds of extra free minutes each month.
2) Data usage really is unlimited, no 5GB cap with EVO.
3) You can actually make phone calls and browse the web. Friends of mine with iPhones have constant connectivity and quality issues.
Also, Sprint gives discounts to anyone that asks. There are three easy ones to get that are open to everyone:
There are also many employer and loyalty discounts of up to about 27%, but those aren't open to the general public.
So, assuming you went with the EPRP above, you'd save $20 a month, so about $500. ($480+taxes)
If you can replace a $60/mo 3G USB modem plan with the $30/mo EVO HotSpot plan, you'll save another $720.
You will also get new phone pricing every 12 months (All EVO plans qualify for Sprint Premier), which is another $150 if you don't want to wait 2 years to upgrade.
The savings are compounded on a family plan.
Everyone's finances are different, but saving $650 ($480+taxes+150) is substantial money for a lot of folks, and that doesn't count the better service.
