How durable is the HTC Desire?

Very likely going to get an HTC Desire instead of an iPhone. My only question is, how durable is the phone?

For example, the iPhone has a scratch resistant screen and in my experience, tends to last quite a long time.

My friends have had some of the old HTC's and, to be honest, the build quality was a little dubious. How does the Desire measure up? Will it last a few years?

The build quality was the first thing that impressed me when I first took my new Desire out of the box. It feels nicely heavy and solidly built. The screen doesnt have the oleophobic coating like the iPhone, but I haven't scratched mine yet. It can be avoided more by getting a case for it, that's what I did. Small scratches won't affect it anyway, when the screen is on you wouldn't see them.

Build is good apart from the bezel around the screen, 2 days in i dropped my desire and it dinted and chipped theb bezel heavily, It wasn't until i looked closer that i noticed it had alot more scratches on it, My adivice, Get a silicone case of ebay for a couple of quid, Covers all the phone apart from the screen.

Good video. I hope my phone doesn't have to come across any of those tests. I tried some clear screens from ebay, but they would peel off at my ear when taking a call. I haven't found a case i like yet. So for now, it sits in my pocket. I don't put anything else in that pocket and tend to put the screen facing out.

Heh I put it screen facing in..

My leg is squishy the corner of a table etc is not so :D

The Folex screen cover I got is great, Cost about

Can't really comment on scratches but i doubt it will last a few years. Imo the iPhone is more scratch prone but it feels like a solid brick compared to Desire.
The battery cover has started creaking and the soft touch finish has already started wearing off. Luckily they're relatively cheap to replace.

Yikes, that is a bit worrying! That said, I guess it depends on how you look after it.

Will have to wrap this thing up in a nice protective case.

Bear in mind that before i applied a flexishield i was using a pDair leather pouch and slipping it in and out constantly. I was also wiping the back to rid my greasy fingerprints. So unless nobody else has had the same issue i guess it was one of those that caused the soft texture to fade away.
