OK, please don't tell me to search because I did. I'm pretty sure this is a fairly common problem, but never paid attention to the fix because it never affected me till now.

I'm still running 1.5 on my Hero and never rooted. I got it a few months ago in February and never had much of a problem with it. About 4 days ago I noticed I couldn't open up my picture mail. I've tried rebooting it and cleaning out my caches, I'm right around half the available memory.

I know 2.1 is supposed to fix this problem but from all the threads on here, it looks like it may open up many more problems. Also my computer is too old to sync with the phone so I can't root until I get a new PC. So updating and rooting are out of the question. I want to stay on 1.5 and recieve picture mail like I have for the last 4 months without a problem.

My wifes Moment also started doing the same thing last night, she's not updated to 2.1 either. After a while we were both able to open a few pics but not all of them. Is Sprint maybe having problems right now?

Once you start getting that useless download button a hard reset is the only thing that will fix MMS, however its only a temporary fix and I personally didn't think resetting my phone all the time was worth it. After doing a hard reset the problem came back after a month and I have never chosen to do it again. Instead I have people email me pics or I check them on the sprint picture mail website. I also haven't upgraded to 2.1 because of the problems people are having. I know how to work around my problem on 1.5 and I'm just not sure that I'm ready to deal with new problems.

I got this phone in Oct. 09 and never had this MMS problem until mid April. WTF? Knowing that 2.1 was coming soon and not wanting to reset up the whole phone I didn't want to go the hard reset route. I found that if the sender resent the same message the picture came through. Definitely not an ideal solution, but it gets them to show up at least. Might work for you too.
