Have you returned your Incredible and now are back to using the Eris?

Disclaimer: This is only my opinion and is meant to be interpreted that way. Another hope with this thread to also let the Eris owners know they aren't missing as much as they might think, because they are stuck in a contract and waiting might end up prevailing in the end.

-------------------------------------------

I've noticed on the Incredible forums and on this forum that some people have returned the Incredible and gone back to their old phones (Droid or Eris).

I for one am one of the people that fell for the hype. I have now decided to return the Incredible and came back to the Eris. I felt there wasn't enough differences or that "WOW" features to justify the purchase. I was wanting to see who else returned their Incredible and has come back to the Eris.

The Goods of Incredible in my findings:
-Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650 , 1 GHz
-3.7" 480 x 800 - (WGVA) AMOLED display
-8GB of internal memory
-512MB of RAM
-Sense UI

The Bad of Incredible in my findings: Edit: Examples in Red
-CDMA radio performance Reception is worse than Eris in my Office at work
-Possible grounding issue (Touch screen will not always work based on what material the phone is sitting on) Screen would suffer with screen jumping with no input and would become unresponsive in windshield mount, and charging at my desk at work
-Cheap plastics (Not what HTC normally puts out. Almost as if it's designed to be dropped and broken) Plastic bezel was severely scratched by keys (Eris still looks brand new)
-8 MP camera is very poor quality for an 8mp camera (I expected better)
-Same battery as the Eris (And the Eris forum thought battery life was bad) For a premium smartphone I expected better
-Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650 , 1 GHz (This 65nm processor is a power hog and has poor 3D processing. TI's newer 45nm OMAP 3 and OMAP 4 with PowerVR technology seems to be just as powerful but uses less power and has better GFX acceleration) Frames skips and lag in games like Raging Thunder and other 3D supported games, I expected the new hotness to play things flawlessly
-3D accelerations of the integrated ATI z430 (The Droid with it's less powerful OMAP 3430 processor seems to be able to do a better job at processing 3D graphics.) Same as above
-Out of stock (You are put on a month long waiting list if your phone is defective. Unacceptable Verizon) Was going to try and get a replacement phone on May 18 due to the screen jumping. Customer service rep me told they wouldn't be able to send me a replacement until June 15. Then found on forums that the screen jumping was a common issue and then decided to send the phone back for good.
-Screen is almost unusable in direct sunlight. (There's a reason that Samsung is making Super AMOLED now) When I was at Wilmington Beach the first week of may I had to cover my head with a towel just to read an e-mail. Bonnie Cha with CNET even states the screen hard to see in bright sunlight

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to say the Eris is a better phone than the Incredible. I'm just saying there are certain aspects of the Eris that seem more appealing to me such as build quality that I had trouble overlooking. And it looks like there are other alternatives in the not so distant future. Just getting opinions of people that jumped ship but have came back and why.

As I stated this is only my opinion and is meant to be interpreted that way. Another hope with this thread to also let the Eris owners know they aren't missing as much as they might think, because they are stuck in a contract and waiting might end up prevailing in the end.

It is more or less a discussion of why people ended up going with the Eris instead of the Incredible. I stated my opinion of the device that is all.

This discussion is not meant for the Incredible users to come in here and start bashing people because they think their phone is being threatened.

I think it's called jealousy or lunacy. The Incredible is a great phone.

Ya this post is inaccurate. I have not seen anyone who said they are going back to the Droid or Eris..I actually have seen one who said they were going back to the Droid but that we because he thinks the droid will get Froyo before HTC products. You sir are just making a non intelligent post the Incredible blows away the Eris there is no comparison and I have owned both.

Yeah call me crazy.....

I love my Eris but, if VZW told me I could get an Incredible for $199 right now. I'd wouldn't be sitting here typing this message. In fact I would probably be at the nearest VZW store before the person that called me actually hung up the phone.

But as it is they haven't so I can't.

Yeah, well how about THIS for torture. I AM due for an upgrade and can get the Incredible at the 2 year contract price right now, but I'm not going to get one because my wife would be pissed at me if I got one and she didn't (not really pissed, but not happy and I'm trying to be nice to her). She's not due for an upgrade until January (we're on a shared plan). It sucks that Verizon lets the primary line upgrade every 12 months, but not the secondary line.

You could always wait for the Droid Shadow that has been leaked

Now the thread is becoming fun. Don't give up the Eris, but rationalize it this way. (I did it and it works) If you get the DI for $169, (don't forget the $30 customer satisfaction rebate when you call) you can drop insurance for the phone $120 / year and $90 replacement. Use the Eris for backup and for going out to unfriendly places, like a bar, beach, gym etc. This way you have the great feel and solidity of the Eris in case you drop it, and you won't freak if you lose it. I used it about 20% of the time when I had both and you begin to realize the difference is minimal once you swap back and forth even though at first the DI seems better. Actually, you can drop insurance on both phones now which saves you $240 / year. Your wife will understand.

Oh man, if people are returning the Incredible because the camera is bad compared to the Eris, it must be REALLY bad. The camera on the Eris is the worst I've ever used on a phone.

Well the camera isn't the WORST I've ever used, but I hear ya man...especially on 2.1, the pictures blur really bad unless you hold your hand still for like 10 seconds...can be very frustrating.

Actually I have seen some people on the Droid forum say that they went back to the Droid from the Incredible. I am surprised to see a few say that they went back to the Eris. I gave my Eris to my wife last week but when her new every two comes up I will be getting her the incredible or whatever is out at the time that has sense UI. Me on the other hand, I've gotten used to not having sense and the Droid is great for me especially with it overclocked.:D

I despise Motorola phones, always have.

The only thing keeping me calm is the fact that I know when I'm due for an upgrade there will be some AMAZING phones available, stuff that will put the Incredible to shame. Though the Incredible is......incredible, the interface is essentially identical to the Eris so switching to it wouldn't feel much different (I'm making an assumption here). Perhaps in January HTC will have a whole new interface for their Android phones, a completely redesigned Sense UI or something like that. Or maybe LG will have some awesome Android phones, I've always liked LG.

Either way, though the Eris makes me want to throw it through the window sometimes (like yesterday in the car when I was trying to use navigation and call someone on the phone at the same time, I hung up on them accidentally twice), there isn't a phone out there that really makes me want to sign a new contract right now.

Here is one. Bought the Incredible to replace the Eris. After about a week I discovered that the Eris did pretty much what the Incredible did just slower. For what I had to pay for the Incredible (full price) having more speed wasn't worth the price difference. So I am back to the Eris. No regrets at all.

I bought the Eris a few months ago but recently(2 weeks) upgraded again to the Incredible as we had a new every 2 open. I got the DI for $150 and Sold my Eris for $120, so for 30 bucks the DI was very worth it. Even if it was $200, the DI would still be worth it. Great phone and I have had zero issues with it so far.

There are always gonna be some who go back to another phone. There were people in here who complained about the Eris and went back to their trusty ole "dumbphone". In my opinion, $200 is a lot for a faster clone of the Eris. I'd rather hold off and wait for either, a) a better device or b) a better device with LTE. Some people have other priorities with their money and that is completely up to them.

In that case, I'd bite.

The only beef I have with the Droid Incredible is the screen. I don't know why, but my Eris seems to have richer color while the Incredible has this sorta washed out blue-ish thing going on (mind you, i had both phones at their brightest setting with the exact same wallpaper when comparing).

An added benefit is having a slightly less powerful but fun phone for another 15 months, and when the upgrade comes around, I'll have acces to discounted phones that'll blow the incredible out of the water.
