Just sat on hold for 20 minutes with HTC and I asked CSR James if they were aware of issues with the silent call / loss of sound bug, and he stated when asked specifically that they were "aware of issues with the device after the update" and further he said yes when I asked specifically about the silent call issue.

He said also that they are not aware of the 50% time without bug, and I asked him about the music player not showing various artist cd's under albums as one cd and he said that they were not aware of that.

I asked him, since verizon is sending me a refurb, if I should replace my device or stick with what I have and see if they fix it and he advised me to stick with the one I have.

Interesting.

Sorry if someone has already posted any information about this in another thread.

I suspect that HTC has a monetary interest in you not getting a refurb.

I asked that question second...

He confirmed that they were aware before I said anything about getting a replacement.

If they read from scripts and are so good at not releasing any new information I doubt he would pull it out of his *&^.

I would suggest that more people call and voice their issues, it may be worthless, but its better than dealing with them and not.

Check out the silent bug thread... I've been rebooting after using the camera and then doing a calibrate and my phone seems to work better.. I have been avoiding the camera app as much as possible and have had pretty good success with it. Sure hope there is an update soon though or maybe I'll blow up the customer service number at some point after the eris isn't available anymore, however, I LOVE the trackball feature, so moving to something else without it would sadden me.

Spoke to the in store Verizon tech today where I purchased the phone back in January of this year about the silent call issue after the OTA update.

He too has an Eris and has experienced the same issues even after a factory reset. He said he has personally been in contact with HTC, that they are aware of the bug and will be addressing it in an upcoming maintenance OTA release :)

I asked him if he knew when and said no, but to wait instead of getting a new phone because the problem is likely to persist with the replacements. He noted that we were definitely not alone with the silent phone issue.

When asked about upgrading to the MOTO Droid he said I would not have to pay the cancellation fee on the Eris but would need to pay the full price for the MOTO Droid or any other replacement phone.

I know I want to beleive what he said so am hopeful it will be addressed by HTC soon if they ever want me to buy another one of their phones. Since I use this phone for business it must be corrected or I'll be forced to pony up for a new phone...unbeleivable.

I'm trying to like this cool device

Again, I think it's in Verizon's monetary best interest to suggest not getting a replacement. On this forum, several others and I personally have had success getting a replacement that never has the silent bug (six weeks and counting). If you're phone's not working, you should get them to replace it. If the replacement doesn't work, they should replace it again. You're paying them plenty of money every month for telephone service, and it's completely within your rights to get what you pay for.

My old phone had the silent bug on the first call I made with the 2.1 OTA. It was my mom calling about how she was getting the silent call bug on her Eris.

It never happened again though. A month later I had to get it replaced because of the trackball. My refurb has never done it once.

I would consider getting another Droid phone if they told me I could upgrade to a different phone (after I've been having all of these Eris problems), but I love the portability of the Eris. The MotoDroid is so bulky, but the Incredible is ugly compared to the sleek Eris.

What are your thoughts?

Yeah, I really like the Eris. The droid is just way too big. I wish the Eris had a front facing camera though (my friends all just got the Evo and I'm sorta jealous...)

I'm going to try to root my V3 leak tonight. If it works, cool, maybe I will stay happy with my Eris. If not, the phone is so bad I may try to get a Droid X some time after it is released, so I can see reviews, problems, etc. before I make that jump. I do want to stay with Android, but I think vanilla may be the way to go. I figure if I can root I can use a different dialer and fix my phone problems.
