If I end up rooting, can i still download OTA like 2.2, and later Gingerbread?

I suspect that depends. Like with the Droid, I imagine as long as you had the appropriate otacerts file on the phone, then the update would happen - of course depending on what root did, or what you did when rooted, the update may fail (it is expecting certain things/files/programs/whatever).

But perhaps we should wait until either it is rooted or they release the OTA.

What i am asking is if when i am able to root it, if i do so, will it be possible to unroot it to install new versions of android, and then root back?
I do not think anyone can answer that 100% yet.
But I would think it would stand to reason that if things advance enough to get root, that you'd also then be able to unroot/get back to stock (ie, able to receive OTA).

EDIT: and then to root after the OTA, you'd have to wait until they come up with that "fix" - which may or may not be easy, depending on the rooting process that they may or not even come up with by that time.

Based on the progress of Inc rooting, you may have 2.2 OTA before there is a rooted option ;)

That's very true. lol

If you have a rooted Inc then you'll have to disable otacerts.zip if you don't want to receive updates (most custom ROMs that'll be made will do this automatically). If you don't and you accept the update, than you'll lose root access as the update will fix that. You would then lose the ability to root again until someone figures out how to gain root access on 2.2.

If you did root before the update, I'd suggest keeping it. It's more likely that someone makes a custom 2.2 ROM quicker than it'll take to gain root access on 2.2. In any case, the custom 2.2 ROMs will LIKELY be out beforehand, anyway.

Correct! OP, you'll still get the 2.2(and anything afterwards) update, just not officially.;)
