Keep Droid or go to Incredible?

I have been having problems with my Droids since January. The screen proximity sensor causes me to hang up or mute calls. (It doesn't (and shouldn't!) matter where I place my hair - I still hang up or mute calls). I want to be able to use my smart phone for a phone, too. In fact, that is still the most important feature to me in a phone.

My question is: Does anyone have issues with the Incredible hanging up and/or muting calls while you are in the middle of a conversation? I need to know if I should continue with my frustraing Droid or see if I can switch to the Incredible. If I am going to have the same problem, I am not going to bother trying to switch.

Thanks!

I'm willing to bet you're muting calls by accidently hitting the "add call" soft key. You'll still be able to hear them, they won't hear you, but muting and unmuting won't work. That's a very common issue. I guess ya just gotta be cognizant of how you hold it. Most of us Droid users have had that issue.

As whether or not to move to the Inc, I would just ask two questions:
1) Are you willing to root your phone?
2) How long are you willing to wait for the next best thing?
C) Did you notice I can't count?

If you're willing to root your Droid, then I'm of the opinion it's as good or better (minus that sweet Camera the Inc has). If not, then the Inc is definitely the better choice. And as it's been alluded to, it won't be long before even better phones come out. However, I don't think it'll be till holiday season before Verizon puts out a head and shoulders better option than the Inc.

You might want to see if you can get a replacement for your Droid. I haven't heard or looked to see if this is a common problem amongst all Droid owners, but if it isn't than I would return it for a new one if you can.

The Droid Incredible is indeed nice, but is it much nicer than the Moto Droid? Not entirely. I would recommend rooting your phone if you haven't already. The Droid's battery life is much better than the HTC Incredible and with the custom ROMs out there, there's a lot more freedom and choice.

It's a common problem. Like the second poster said, get a hair cut. No not really, but that's basically your only option if you want to stick with the Moto Droid. It's a common proximity sensor issue. It is currently happening to a close friend of mine as well.

I have not heard of any such issues with the incredible as of yet. It doesn't mean that's not the case, but there are a number of users here with long hair, and I haven't heard of any complaints.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will try covering the sensor with my finger to be sure that is the problem. Rooting my phone has crossed my mind, but I am afraid I will become obsessed with the phone for a little while after that (spent countless hours playing with Sweeter Home) and I haven't wanted to commit the time. If you root the phone, is your warranty then void?

So far, the Incredible sounds like it doesn't have the sensor problem. I am going to see if I make the switch what I will have to pay to go to the Incredible.

I highly doubt that. Inc is new flagship phone and droids price dumped for a reason.

OP - you should try it out if you can - you have 30 days to return. That way you will be able to find out. :)

There's a reason 2010 Porsche costs more than 2009 Porsche.

My rooted Droid is OCed to 1.2GHz. The screen transitions are a hair behind the Inc's. My Droid blows away my g/f's internet though. Market DLs are about the same. Droid screen is better, more crisp and clear. Most clearly seen if you got to the Market on both. You see pixelized icons on the Inc, but vivid detail on the Droid. Colors are a lil more vibrant on the Inc, though. Inc's screen is useless in sunlight. Not that any phone does good in it. Inc DEF has the better camera. Droid has the keyboard, yada yada yada.

These phones are on par w/ one another. Only fanboys on either side would say otherwise. It's all a matter of preference and what works for you. You're not going wrong w/ either.
