when ever i get a message, its always says 'Transcript not available'...so really the only differnce of having google voice now having an email, a text and the voice mail thing saying i have the same voice message, oh and i have to use another number for voice mail...so whats the point of having google voice? does it do anything besides fail to transcribe voice mails, or is that the main feature of it?

It does transcribe voicemails it typically takes 2-3 minutes after someone leaves it. However, I think you have the setting turned off, try logging into www.google.com/voice and click settings --> voicemail and texts ---> transcribe voicemails -->save

That should work. there are also many advantages to using google voice aside from the visual voicemail. This includes free minutes (with the friends and family) and to send al ur texts through data (i.e. no text messages). Also, you can make cheap international calls.

You can also just download the app and in the same settings place on google.com/voice you can turn off email warnings and forwarded texts because you already have the app.

There is so much you can do with it that I haven't used yet. Right now I give out my Google number to customers and have set it up so that after business hours, all unknown numbers go right to voice mail without even ringing my phone. To me that alone makes it worth having.

dont we already get free minutes with a select set of numbers? or is it a different set of numbers? and unlimited text comes with the data plan.

Not sure what kind of data plan you're on, but texting certainly does not come standard. Google voice has saved me $10/month.

maybe its different for you, but i came from alltel and when i asked the sales rep (alltel) if if got x-amount of mins and an unlimited data plan does that include unlimited texts, they said it did and i have never paid extra for texts.

You may want to check on that bc when I switched from the Dare and got the INC, I was also told that the data plan included unlimited text/pix/flix...then I looked online and saw it would charge me for it, so I'd def check into that! BC the data plan doesn't include the unlimited text.

Verizon's may not, i just assumed it did because the contract i was under form alltel (and the one that Verizon still uses since the switch) included free text under a data plan....just thought they were all like that

Verizon's current standard plans definitely don't offer this. But it's certainly conceivable that you might enjoy this privilege as a grandfathered benefit of being an Alltel customer. You may want to verify whether this still applies to whatever plan you're currently using with your Droid Incredible, though.

I've become a huge fan of GV. It's been quite good at transcribing my voicemails thus far, though I've only had it for a few days. I'm really looking forward to the next time I get a call while in the theater. I hate not knowing if the call/v-mail is truly urgent. I currently have it set to text and not email me (felt that was redundant, and figured GVoice keeps a permanent record). I like the text because it's relatively instant, and can follow up with Voice app when needed.

Also, the ability to listen to the actual audio message without having to call my v-mail is awesome. I hate having to save/repeat to take notes on the message. Another thing i look forward to is the next time someone leaves me a phone number to call and i dont have to write it down.

Otherwise, I do not actually have a separate phone number. I have it set up for just my VZW number. However, I like the idea of giving a Google number to my patients. That could work quite well for follow-up questions/needs without me giving out my 'personal' number. I'll have to think on that.

i've found it too difficult to switch people over to my gv number as everyone already has my cell. I use GV for two things:

1. voicemail transcripts
2. txting through the computer when i'm at my laptop and too lazy to type on the phone keyboard.

Other than that, its nothing earth shattering to me.
