OK. That's beyond me. I'm just glad I know how to turn my Incredible on. Maybe when my son returns from college he can reveal the wonders of the Incredible.

Its definitely a intense process if you've never done it before nor are tech savvy, but it serves great purpose and rooting is much easier after having done it or watching vids on it of other people rooting their devices. Honestly, if you feel comfortable with what HTC/VZW are offering on the phone and what its capabilities are, then you are fine without root. But for some of us that want to be in full control of our phone and be the ones to decide what is on it and what it can do hardware-wise regardless of preloaded software limitations, then root is the way to go.
