They are pretty restrictive. If it were me I would avoid WireFly and letstalk.com and other 3rd party retailers completely. They have their own ETF and terms of service in addition to Verizons.
I went through WireFly to get my Incredible. You're right that they will penalize you in addition to Verizon if you drop services/early terminate, but I have to say it's still a great deal.
With their bing cash-back promotion I got three phones (mine + 2 dumb phones) for less than nothing. I paid $200 out of pocket but I now have $300 waiting for me in my bing account.

Yes you can get a really good deal. I used letstalk.com to get a couple of phones a few years back. You just have to make sure you read the fine print because if you change devices on the lines or lower your minutes or features at all it is default of contract and they will automatically charge their ETF to the credit card you used to pay for your initial purchase.
In addition to that they have an absurd 14 day/30 minutes of use return policy. So assuming you know for sure that this is the device for you for at least the next 181 days (6 months) and you have no plans to change your pricing plans or features within 181 days , then yes you can get a pretty good deal.
it's totally worith it, imho. You get same phone for a better price. You dont have wait in line at stores. Mine shows up today. I am finally getting off my Storm. Can't wait. Very easy transaction = second time for me works like a charm.
What if I don't change my service but I ask Verizon for my employee discount they offer at my job? So, order through Wirefly, and then get the request the employee discount on my service through verizon?

I ordered mine through wirefly, got it for 149 and 100 bing cashback waiting in my account: 50 is a pretty good price, worth the restrictions.
And yes you can call Verizon once you have the account set up and get your employee discount set up on it. I and another guy here at work did it, no problems.
