Okay i've decided to stick with sprint/get the evo

but i was wondering..

Is there an app to change the megapixels of the front facing camera?

My friend has an iphone and she can actually download an app to change the megapixel from 3.0/3.2 to like 7.

Now I love taking pictures and webcaming but 1.3 is going to take horrid pictures(i mean there is the 8 megapixel on the back) but i'd love to take a self-portrait


so i was wondering can you change the megapixels of the camera via an app in the android market and if so what's the app called

If the hardware only supports 1.3MP, I really don't see how you could increase that with software if its a hardware limitation. I'd be very skeptical of some program that doubles the megapixels...don't think that's possible unless the hardware supports it but they put a software roadblock up to limit it.

What is the app called? And I assume it's jailbroken?


Anyways, megapixels does not equate to quality, AT ALL. Megapixels just means the screen dimensions of the images it takes. A 1.3MP camera could take a video better than a 3MP camera - its more about how good the hardware/software is than a generic MP count, especially when talking video. There is an example of the front facing camera taking video which looks surprisingly good, have you seen it?

If so, all that does it blows up pictures after you take them. I don't know if an app such as the exists on Android. It doesn't make the camera more effective or anything - the camera still functions at 3MP...it just comes in and doubles the size of the picture. It does not work for video anyway, which is what you seem to be wanting?

Not sure if something like that exists in Android.

I have an iPhone and have paid for that app just to prove to a friend that it doesn't do anything. First of all, you need to understand the difference between the size and quality of pictures. Megapixels is a direct correlation to the size of the picture, not the quality. The quality of the lens is what affects the quality. So yes, what that app does is it will double the pixels so the image could be bigger, but by no means does it make it a better quality picture. In fact, it makes it a worse quality picture. You can export your picture into any photo editing program and double the pixel size yourself and it will do the same thing as this. The app is garbage so you don't want it anyways. It survives off of people not understanding how cameras work and people like me trying to show others that it doesn't work. It is not possible for a 3mp camera to take a true 7mp photo without pixel doubling.

Once i get my evo, i plan on selling my hero on ebay(i would do Craigslist but ppl get killed there lol and i heard u get more on ebay sometimes)

But how does it work. Should i just try my luck on craigslist or is a better value to sell it on ebay?

Ebay gives you a larger buying audience, but you have to deal with fees, shipping and unethical buyers who may claim they never received the phone and reverse the payment.

I have sold some of my phones on craigslist and some on ebay. Although craigslist limits the number of buyers (potentially lower value), I prefer it because I only accept cash and I only meet in person. I have learned to meet in person at a Sprint store as well, so the person can activate it on the spot AND its a public place which is safer. I don't want buyers knowing where I live and meeting at the Sprint store solves that.

I agree with stroths and I think it really depends on the area you live in. If you live in a small town, it may be really difficult to sell a phone on craigslist. If you live in a bigger city, especially with wealthier people, it is easier to sell on craigslist. My advice would be to try craigslist first and if you can't get the price you want, try ebay after. If you do craigslist, make sure to only accept cash and meet in public places.

You could try trading in your phone at Best Buy for a gift card, assuming you'd want a gift card from there. Looks like you can get around $100 for the Hero depending on the condition. Here's the link:

I haven't checked ebay prices, but I'd assume you'd get more selling there.

yes. ship it with insurance, delivery signature confirmation, and get a tracking number and also list that in your auction. it will not only ensure that someone can't say they didn't receive it, but by listing that in your auction you will also deter people from bidding that do that.

ebay does not charge around 10%. at least not for everything. they took 3% of my iPhone that i just sold a few days ago.

edit: that's wrong. they actually charged me 9%. and paypal charged me 3%

I've never looked into Sprint's 30-day return policy, but could you exchange your Hero for a different phone, keep it for 5 days, and then exchange that one for an Evo? That would be a little more hassle, but not much more than trying to sell your Hero, and you wouldn't lose as much money.

Instead of that then, couldn't you just buy a cheap flip phone at full retail, activate that on your line, return your hero on the 30 and just use the flip phone for five days until you get your Evo? I don't know if that's something they can do, but you should talk to them about it, otherwise you're going to have to pay full retail for your evo.

If it's been less than 30 days since you came to Sprint, call them up (*2) and when it asks what you want, state "Cancel". This will get you to Sprint's retentions department. This is Sprint's group that has the most authority (in most cases) to make a deal. Explain that the screen isn't big enough for you and you want the Evo. Since you can cancel anytime before the 30 days, they will likely work something out for you.

I know that other people have done this in the past when in circumstances just like yours.

I'm pretty sure this will work, you get a 30-day return on any phone you try out.

So just go in there, tell them you want to take back your hero, get a different CHEAP phone, then once the Evo comes out, take back the cheap phone and tell them you want to the Evo.

If there are any Sprint reps on here, what are the cost with returning a phone. Is there a restocking fee?

p.s. since you got the phone on 4/30 sounds like you only have a couple days to do this if my solution will work.

I'm with them on calling customer service, you can cancel the account right now and just go without a phone for a few days (worst case scenario) or more likely they will authorize you to get the EVO when released as long as you return the other phone.. They don't want to lose you as a customer so I'm sure they'll do something.
