Torn between Droid and Cliq

The Cliq came out yesterday and Droid will be later this week, so since I want - nay, need - a new phone I was doing some price comparing.
Things I need in the phone:
  • Unlimited data
  • Some messages (< 200)
  • Some voice minutes (< 100)
Having the explicit ability to tether the phone would be nice, too.
So based on that, the Droid plan with Verizon rounded out about $100, whereas the Cliq was less than $70 - monthly cost assuming 2 year plan, not including phone. That being said, Droid seems like a better phone (newer software, bigger screen, etc), so I'd like that if I can afford it.
Perhaps people can help me point out the finer points of creating a lower-cost plan? I checked out billshrink.com and they showed a Blackberry-centric plan (unlimited data, maybe msgs) that had voice calls as an extra, instead of a set rate.

The battle isn't between the features of either phone.. it's the voice/data plan that is needed for each phone in their respective networks. Unlike the sites that do reviews of phones, I have a limited budget and if I have to use a 'childs toy' to fit within the budget then I will (but won't be happy).
Now, if you want to provide constructive information about what voice/data plan to use to reduce the painful monthly cost, I'd appreciate that.

I think you looked at the data plans wrong on the vzw site. You don't need to get the unlimited data plan all you need is the email and web for smartphones that is 30 bucks. So a 450 minute plan (39.99) plus 250 messages (5.00 free to all vzw customers and alltel) plus total equipment coverage (7.99) plus email and web for smartphones (29.99) brings you to a total of $82.97 monthly. Tethering can easily be handled by an application without paying verizon a fee. Just look around. Now that's a 12 dollar increase for a way better device on a way better network. You think about it and tell me if that is acceptable.

And just to ease your mind that the email and web is unlimited data this is straight from the vzw site.

I read that the Cliq was a poor quality build. I am very picky about the build. When I had the chance to handle a real one, I thought it had a nice shape and quality build. I don't like the look of the keyboard, but its design works and it feels great when typing. The only part of the Cliq's build I feel is lame is the rear battery cover. I tried the Droid and it had a loose slider, and the keyboard is awful. Love the Android 2.0 and the larger screen. Vz is way more expensive than TMo. I have everything unlimited with 300 mssgs (I don't message much) for $79 mo. When a high end Android with a high powered processor, unlocked or Tmo sub'd, I'll spring for it. Cliq is nice in the meantime now that Moto sent out the recent update/fix for several software problems.
