Hi All,
While I have been waiting (Flipping Hard) to get one of these phones
hopefully on Upgrade with 3 shortly I have in the past few weeks been
Avidly reading the posts on the Forums.
I have to say that I am a little scared as nearly every post after post
is about problems with the Hero some Major and most minor (Software)
problems.
Why do you think there has been so many niggles with this phone?
I know that anything when first released ie:Computer OS has bugs and stuff but there seems to be so many with the phone.
It certainly is not preventing me from wanting one and I will surely get one
soon I hope, but why so many problem phones?
Perhaps we should start a My Hero is Fantastic Thread and it works perfectly. :)

Peace,
Andrew.

I find the odd niggle with my phone, but I don't expect I'll ever see a perfect phone. For me, this is the best phone I've ever had, sure there are some better phones coming along, like the Droid, or the super sexy XPERIA X10, but that's the way it works with tech, what's Phone of the Year one year is grandfatherly the next. I love my Hero. There, I said it.

Forums are here to allow like-minded users who share a common interest to discuss, chat, compare, quote, help, discuss and generally have fun with and about a particular topic. IMHO, Monkey was asking a valid question (which is what forums are here for!).

If Monkey is going to get a phone, surely he deserves to find out which is the best from the people who know best: The Users!

I've had mine a couple of months and it's by far the best phone I've owned. However, the battery issue and the PC connection issue are unnacceptable. HTC won't admit either of these are known faults, and nor will Carphone Warehouse. Which means if you return it to either of them to fix, they'll probably sit on it for a few days, flash it, wait 24hrs, and send it back. It'll work great for a week, then the same problems will occur. I wish I could be less sceptical but having spoken with customer services of both, I'm not gonna hold my breath.

However, as a phone/gadget, it's brilliant. I just wish it was supported better.

Have you tried upgrading the phone yourself to one of the custom ROMs and flashing the RADIO to the latest version? I noticed a great increase in battery performance from using the latest ROM and RADIO.

What issues are you having with the PC? Can you provide details?

Android is in its infancy at the moment, it's developing every day. IMHO, Give it a while and Android will far surpass WM and (dare I speak such blasphemy) the iPhone. People need to be aware that Android is developing. For geeks and hackers its a dream come true. Joe Average who just wants a 'working' device should stick with something tried and tested.

No, I haven't touched any of the custom ROMs - I'm currently running the 2.73 upgrade (UK phone).

PC/Hero connection used to work perfectly, but now they don't recognise each other. No notifications or option to mount SD card. PC doesn't even see the card as an external drive. Therefore I can't do any ROM upgrades or sync MP3s, download photos, etc.

Have tried different cables and different PCs, but nothing works.

Any ideas appreciated ... Cheers

Try the following:

1. Power-down, remove card from device, power up, shut-down, insert card and power-up

2. Download the SDK, remove and reinstall the drivers from the SDK folder. SDK is available from: Android SDK | Android Developers

3. Try a different SD card

4. Format your SD card from Hero Settings (and repeat step 1).

5. Hard reset your HTC hero

6. Get an iPhone

Any apps that could have caused this? Apps2SD, SD-Share etc?

Also, what O.S. are you using?

It may be worth you opening up a new thread for this question. PM me the link and I'll post further responses there.

Thanks Agent-5, I'll have a go and post an update.

I may already have started a thread on this, but IIR it was more to do with the battery problem. Speaking of which, I posted that based on my success in gaining normal battery use after swapping SD cards ... which lasted approx 24hrs then it was back to monitoring apps, etc. PITA overall.

Dodgy apps IMHO include Skype Lite, MixZing and a couple I can't remember right now.

OS if Vista Business x64.

Will update later.

Cheers

i love my hero very much. but just now when i turned on my wifi and music player the sms tone was working but no message coming out. that's why i'm thinking of changing to experia x10 or some other android phone.

If its a software bug, swapping for another phone running same ROM, or worse a lower version if by launch the Hero gets 2.0, will not help you.
