Confirmed: Verizon Wireless to charge up to $350 early termination on Droid

Well, that just makes me more lean towards doing 1 year contract, -vs- 2 year. These things are changing so fast, really don't want to be locked into more than 1 year at a time, ya know....

Do we know for sure what price of phone with 1 year contract costs??

I've heard on here $269, but when I look at other $199(2 year contract) phones on Verizon's web site, their price with 1 year contract is more like $229.

Someone posted the official Verizon page with pricing and it listed the one year plan price at $269.

Still, I don't think that's too bad. Especially in light of this increased ETF, paying the extra $70 up front, to drop down to a 1 year commitment is probably worth it.

I just can't see going longer than that, I know I'm going to want the latest/greatest sooner than later...

It would be for me except for the fact that I am bringing 3 other people with me. I would have to pay the one year fee for four phones, not just one. Granted they are not getting Droid's so it would be less for the other three. I still think I can live with this for 2 years. At the end of two years there will be something better coming and maybe not even on this network.

Why not do the 2 year contract and when something new comes out that you want, use your annual upgrade (that hardly anyone knows about) to get a new device?

As several people have said, with the price plan the Droid requires, you can upgrade your phone every year using Annual Upgrade anyway. There is no reason to pay the one year contract price. If you're that desperate to get the next best thing before you're eligible for the annual upgrade or (for some reason) ineligible for the annual upgrade, you can always add a line to family share for 9.99 a month (plus the data package of course) and go about it that way. There is always a relatively inexpensive way to get the next greatest phone. By the way, the ETF is totally fair for those who connect a line of service and then sell the phone on Ebay and pay the previous $175 ETF. Another thing, with VZW you have the 30 day Worry Free Guarantee, so if you hate the phone you can return it within that time ONCE and switch it to something else or totally disconnect the service.

Is the one year annual upgrade discount much worse than the new every two discount?
My understanding, which could be totally wrong is:

most of us probably use 2 year contract,

But, after one year, you can upgrade to the latest and greatest without being penalized by getting hit with the ETF. So, why pay the higher price(less discount) of a 1 year contract, if they're going to let you upgrade at the discounted rate anyway??

But, with NE2, depending on your phone(I think), you get additional either $50 or $100 towards that new phone, at the discounted price of the new phone(discount from committing to another 2 year plan)

For the Droid, what we're hearing is $199(after rebate) with 2 year commitment.
$269(after rebate) with a 1 year commitment.

Most other Verizon phones(@199 for 2 year) seem to go for $229 for 1 year contract.

Thats what I been wondering too, why pay more for the 1 year contract, if you can still upgrade to new device with discount after 1 year??

Well, we're talking about an ETF here. That's usually more for switching carriers than getting another phone on the same carrier. My understanding is that if I change my plan on Verizon, it automatically creates a new 1 year contract from that date (if my current contract is less than 1 year from finishing). So I'm basically paying $70 up front to have full flexibility without financial disincentives to do what I want, and Verizon now has more incentives to try to make me happy because I have more freedom.

Also, my understanding is that if you upgrade your phone in the middle of your contract (annual), it extends your contract another 2 years (so now it would be 3 year on annual). Please correct me if I'm wrong.

BTW, the New Every 2 is a discount on top of the contract price of the phone. The annual upgrade is the contract price of the phone.

You're right except that New Every Two is calling plan based, not phone based. With the Annual Upgrade you can upgrade to a phone every year (assuming your plan is high enough) at the two year contract price (assuming you sign another two year contract).

"I've got a golden ticket... I have a twinkle in my eye...."

I am on a family share plan with 5 lines. Me, Father, Mother, Grandmother, Best friend. My father always takes the phones I don't want, and no one else cares one way or the other. The phone lines are all offset by 6-8 months. It works flawlessly... Basically every 6-8 months I am eligible for NE2. :D

Thats what I keep telling people!

Just talk to people, in the store or on the phone. If you talk to the right people they will help you out, while helping themselves out! They want to lock you in for a longer term so doing this is not getting over on them and the supervisors know this.

Just be friendly and ask to speak to someone higher up and VZ will help you out, trust me!

Stop with your ETF and adding lines and blah blah.
