My first Android/Question that I can't find answers too.

Okay, I just got my first android phone (verizon salesmen were awesome btw). I got the Motorola Devour, and barely knowing anything about it, it's amazing. I got this because the droid was too pricey at the moment, and this was still an android. Anyway, good choice on the phone? The first thing I noticed was the battery. I had the phone in my pocket idle all day, opened maybe 3 times, and by 6th period the battery was dead. (9 period in a day, btw.) I go to the store, and they explain blah blah blah. The stretched Advanced Task Killer to do with battery a little to far, so I want to know, every time I open/close the phone, running ATK, will this make my battery last longer or worse. Some topics say it works, and should always be used, other says it drains your battery more than saves.

Now, some people mention task manager or systempanel or something. What does it do, and will it help with my battery. Really, I want to know how to get the most out of one charge. Six hours is insane. I wouldn't be able to get through a day, let alone a weekend where I'm listening to music (I was HOPING this can replace my ipod, is there a music thing on ADM that uses less battery?) texting/calling, and playing games, it's a joke.

I also have ONE MORE problem. But it happens sort of rare. My screen would go black, I try pressing button, power, return, home, but it stays black then reboots.

Another thing I wanted to know what is a good application that will shower me my battery % on a widget, vizbattery or something I tried only shows %10 percents. I want something that shows all percents, so I can track the battery usage better. And anyone know how I can easily see how long a single charge lasts me?

I'm sorry I'm eating up the forum, but I'm really new to droid and google isn't getting my nowhere. If I posted this in the wrong section, forgive me, I again am new to these forums. -MutatedGamer

The best piece of advice someone gave me (Rogers rep) was to cycle the battery fully for the first three or four rounds. What I mean is charge it right up to 100% and use it till it powers off due to low battery, plug it in again, rinse and repeat. I have a shiney new X10 that goes a full day of moderate to heavy use on a charge. My Dream would go less than 6 hours of light use before it died until I cycled it a few times them it was much better. Hope this helps!

cycling is good for the first few times you use the phone, and also should be done a couple times a month. but even so, it's not going to boost your battery life. it keeps it as high as it can possibly be. and too much cycling actually puts strain on the battery. the fact is your not going to get much our of your batter. try looking for an oem battery with more mah than stock.

as goes for any battery these days. use normally, charge when needed, plug in when needed. charge fully and drain fully (cycle) a few times a month. will help keep your battery in good shape but wont make you gain a substantial amount of battery time.

edit - sorry durnk dont feel like fixing grammar/spelling mistakes

Turn automatic synincg for background apps off. That'll add an hour if you're heavy on the app side. Otherwise ya, get task killer. Works wonders. 6 Hours is a lot in one charge for a smart phone - if you you want it to act as an ipod though, turn off everything, 3G and Wifi and run music straight off the SD Card. That'll get you probably 8 hours easily. A simple music player that has widgets for Android is either tunewiki - it is kind of bulky but nice for getting album art. Another one is cubed. My favorite player is zimly, but it has no widget.

For battery life use BatteryTime Light. Its super informative - tells you how much time you have if you straight up play music/surf/let it idle...

Good luck!

my question is why the devour.

why limit yourself with motoblur when the stock android it so much better.

6 hours in not a long time for a android phone

my droid lasts almost 14 hours before I charge it and thats after using it all day

pandora from 8am until 2pm, texting, phone calls, apps that use gps. all of that

also why is the droid to expensive

you can get the droid for 99.99 at best buy and if you have a sears in town they should price match it. sears has the droid for 50 bucks

Why was the devour a bad choice? I can't find anything wrong with it, really. It seems like a good phone to me, and besides it was the best I could afford at the time. I played around with mot droid and the keypad and the way it slides doesnt seem comfortable to me, so I don't really think I'd want it. The HTC droid incred looks like a good phone, but hell if I could afford that. Honestly guys, can someone tell me WHY this is a bad choice? I can't find nothing wrong with the phone, besides sometimes it randomly reboots, but that seems to happen on alot of androids I read somewhere. I can't afford the 30 dollar restock fee and then the extra money for the droid at sears (100 dollars w/ new 2 year contract) after I paid the money for the devour. If I could, I would get it. But since I can't and I don't see nothing wrong with the devour I won't.

PS: I really like the devour design. It feels more natural than droid, meaning the keys and the texture. if the motorola droid had a better design/keyboard I would invest the money for it. Also, the camera on the droid doesnt really bother me, I rarely use camera's on phones.

ok, good deal :) but srrsly, i like the phone, and now you said all the above stuff makes me feel like i hate it lol. anyway, im gonna time how long my battery lasts on today's regular use no charges, and tell you the time. :D

Don't you have 30 days to return your phone ? And if that's the phone you like then get what you like and enjoy, its not the most powerful android phone or high on the android top phones list but in the future research your phones, go in store and play with them and ask questions.

I've only had my Incredible a few weeks, but so far I like using ATK. I still need to try going without it a few days, but I don't see the harm in using it. On the one day I did turn it off my battery drained much faster.

In any case, I make ATK kill itself every time I use it, so there's no way it could drain my battery. But the fact that people say that letting ATK run in the background is a drain on your battery makes me think that letting programs run in the background drains your battery. That's why I kill ATK every time I use it.
