Do we still need Handcent with 2.1?

When i first got my hero about a week ago, I was using handcent for a bit, but came across one every annoying issue. the stock messaging widget would show that i got a text, as well as Handcent. is there any way of disabling the stock one so texts only show up in handcent and not the stock one too? btw, still running 1.5 for the time being (getting my phone swapped out by sprint today due to headphone jack issue, no point in upgrading until i get the new one)

go into the stock message app, click on menu, go down and un-check the "received notification"

you need a different messaging app if you have anyone with a lot of messages. i know myself and others have been complaining about the fact that anyone with a couple hundred messages just won't open with the stock app.

I've never had issues with them opening. Deleting them, however, takes a while. I use the AOSP messaging app now. Not as pretty looking, but much snappier.
