Accessories Good car cradle for EVO??? for dash near radio

I've been looking at this (it attaches to the air vents):

d35c
http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/cellphone/d35c/?cpg=126H

Kinda more expensive than others, but I seem to really like the idea. Android 17 (I believe is his/her name) posted a thread with cheap accessories, one of which is a car mount - which I may end up getting, for my last car mount broke.

There are some videos of it on YouTube, showing that its strength.

i took a low risk high reward chance....im hoping this will stick to the plastic part of my dash AND swivel 180 degrees...

Car Windshield/Dash Mount Dock for IPOD iPhone Zune G1 - eBay (item 260610917633 end time May-29-10 15:20:31 PDT)

I picked that up a couple weeks ago when it was on sale through some random vendor for 3 bucks. It also comes with a vent clip and is highly adjustable. Since its so cheap you won't feel bad buying something better that comes along if you feel the need.

ANGRY let me ask you...does it come with a double sided tape or sticky adhesive for the dash (part of the dash facing me like the radio, not on top)???? im not using it on the glass OR the air vent....by sticking it to the dash can it still swivel from 90 degrees to 180 degrees???? id like to rotate the phone for GPS or WEB

THANKS!

Just roaming monoprice.com for some cables and found a great option....

For only $3.01 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Universal GPS Car Mount Holder | For Garmin

$3.68

I may have to just buy this one lol.

I have purchased from monoprice in the past many times, and I have had no problems with them.

Also, as a side note, they have cigarette lighter to usb for $1.16. For that price, anyone who preordered from the shack have been robbed, for the accessories will cost a lot.

...then add a micro usb cable for $1.02 and you're set

Yeah it comes with a circular disk with adhesive on the back that you use the suction cup to connect to it. All in all not a bad deal for under 10 bucks.

I'm jumping all over that Monoprice car mount and USB-cigarette adapter. Unfortunately, they are out of 3' micro USB cables. 1.5' is way too short, and 6' is way too long.

Idk, I just went out to my Taurus with 1.5' measured out on my measuring tape to see if it will work, and it seems to be perfectly fine, and easily reached by the drivers side. In fact, I think I will only need about 1', for the cigarette adapter does have some length to it as well.

Well the cigarette lighter in my Accord is all the way at the bottom of my dash, and I plan on mounting the mount in the center of my windshield, so I would need at least 2 or 3 feet.

That's probably my fault :) I bought 10 of the 3' cables from them last week.

As far as car mounts go, I really like ProClip's setup. They sell a 2-part system. One is a mount which is specific to the make and model of your car. There are usually 3-4 places you can put the mount depending on the car.

Then, they sell holders for each particular brand of phone that attach to the mounts. They have fixed holders or ones that can rotate 360 and swivel up to 15 degrees. Unfortunately they don't have a holder yet for the EVO but they are working on one.

I already have a mount which puts the phone on the right side of the center console facing towards the driver and I plan on buying the EVO mount whenever they come out with one.

You can check out their site at ProClip Mounting System

Heh I also have a Proclip setup and love it.. I actually fired an email off to them the other day asking about an Evo Device holder... I THINK the HTC HD2 one they have should work, but I kinda like the Incredible one they have that has an auto-car-mode, wondering if thier upcoming evo will do that to.

Just bought the universal window mount kit at the Sprint store. It resembles the iGrip mount which is made in Germany. It is absolutely outstanding for the EVO. Highly recommended. I am using it in my Lexus SUV, so the window mount (suction cup) was the best mount for my situation. Didn't want to glue or drill the dash for the Pro_Mount. Just thought I would throw this out there. Thought of ordering one from Ebay which most of them come from China, but didn't want to wait for 3 weeks for shipping. So, just head on down to the Sprint store and check it out. There are alot of good mounts out there, so you have to find the one that works best in your car/truck. Solid mount, bean bag, adhesive mount, window suction, goose neck, etc...

Just FYI, 99% of proclip's dash mounts don't require the use of any adhesive. On rare occasions, usually due to the effects of gravity and the orientation of the dash crevices, the adhesive pad is needed for that reassurance. That adhesive is non marking to the dash and easy to remove. Just mentioning for those that would wrongfully read into your statement.

seems there are alot moer options for this than when i first started looking a few months back. good to see! anyone hear about a second gen evo or what may be taking its place?

I got this dock and it's about all i could ask for:
www.evocardock.com

At $18.95 + s&h it is still less than half the cost of the 'official one'. It doesnt have a connection to a charger etc but i have that rigged up otherwise. Its also got the hole in the back to allow for photos/video.

Had it for a few weeks now and worked well - only drawback is that the phone gets really really hot if its a sunny day, but i think youll probably get that with any mount.

Id recommend it
