Hummingbird processor vs Apple A4 processor??

I've heard that theae 2 processers are very similar but obviously there must be a few differences. Does anyone know where I can find a comparison between the 2 or can someone compare them for me here?

I'm just curious really. Both are really good I hear.

hummingbird made the a4. my guess is it's the same or almost the same just with a different name for apple.

both are 1ghz

edit: and if i remember correctly the 3gs currently has an a8 running at less than 1ghz. doesn't the galaxy s use the a8? which must mean the galaxy s is using an overclocked a8 or that the iphone 3gs is using an underclocked a8

hope that helps

edit again: i just read that the the hummingbird processor in the galaxy s is an a8 core modified to make performance gains. the a4 is also an a8 core modified. basically they have a license to use ARM technology. they take that technology and implement their own ideas for performance gains. the a8 is the main core samsung/hummingbird seems to be using. they just modify that core to fit the specific device. for instance the galaxy s apples ipad, iphone 3gs, and the iphone. 4 all use a modified version of the a8.

The ARM Cortex A8 "Hummingbird" is superior to the one found in the iPhone 3GS (it's nearly twice as powerful).

Simply because it runs on a 45nm process, consumes less power and has a higher clock speed.

Samsung provides Apple with the processors in their phones. The CPU in the 3GS is also an ARM Cortex A8.
It runs at 600Mhz.

yeah but there all still modified a8s correct?

So basically there isnt much of a difference between the a4, snapdragon and hummingbird processors besides the gpu that they use right?

the a4 uses the hummingbird processor. The A4 is a SoC (system on chip) which means it has pretty much everything your computer would have on the chip itself. The hummingbird is the cpu portion on that chip.

Apple A4 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia gives a pretty good explanation.

I haven't found a place that lists all the Samsung's SoC specs, but supposedly it has the better GPU...
