Hello All,
I am new to the droid family. I bought the Eris Droid about 2 months ago. I wanted to be able to chat with my family, get on facebook, have directions to places my husband refuses to get directions for. A little bit of everything and the droid fits me perfectly. EXCEPT I'm really not liking the battery life. I fully charged in late yesterday, didn't use it much since and this am the battery is almost depleted. I changed some settings on my incoming mail and cleared cache. What else am I missing?? I hope a stronger longer lasting battery will be forthcoming

Yeah the battery sucks that's the only thing I hate.
Depending on how much you use apps and videos and internet.

You have to turn the Mobile Network off when you dont need it. That is what is killing your battery.

I don't understand why people have to turn the mobile network off to save battery. Isn't that why we are required to buy the whole somewhat-ridiculous $30 a month data plan? I leave my 3G on all the time and I get almost a day and a half out of my battery. Do you have 2.1? If so, check your running services and see if you have some app running in the background that is chewing up your battery. There could be a number of reason as to why your battery is draining fast, but the mobile network should not be one of them.

How long is your battery lasting? You should be getting a day out of it easily even with some heavy surfing and chatting with the family. Do you have a good connection in your house? If not, turning on wifi (if you have it) can help save battery life.

Here is what i have running on my phone and i get a day out of it easily:
Facebook widget, Bible verse widget, calendar, yahoo mail, weather, and i also surf quite frequently and throw in the occasional pandora.

Coming from a blackberry though where i could do all that and get three days out of a battery, it's pretty disappointing. But, your battery shouldn't be that terrible.

I also have never turned off the network, don't see the point in that.

I agree with that. I have been going back and forth with my wifi vs 3g. I have noticed that when I am at home, my battery doesn't drain any faster if I have 3G on or if I have wifi on. Something is always on though. With moderate use, I can get about 1 1/2 to almost two days. Mostly depends on what games I'm playing. Even when I am sitting in the hospital at work, searching for a network for 10 hours, I can still get almost a day out of the battery life.

^Same here. With 2.1 and using System Monitor to shut down apps I'm not using (like the camera and browser), I'm at 70% after 14 hours of moderate usage when I used to be at 30% on 1.5.

I'm amazed at those who are getting more than a day out of their phone! I'd say an average is 12-16 hours per day. There is an extended battery that you can buy from Seido for about $60. It will double your battery life, but it makes the phone thicker.

If you are new to smartphones, you are gonna be disappointed at first, because these things simply don't get the life of a regular feature phone. These are mini-computers with tiny batteries to support them.

12-16 isn't too terrible though. I mean that will easily get you through a day of work and you can charge while on the road or at home.

That's what I do. I rarely run out before bedtime.

I'd say 12 hours is a bit low, 16 may be pushing it. Wasn't there a thread on here saying how Google said that if you weren't getting at least a day's use out of your phone, something was seriously wrong with it? Regardless of the battery size of the phone, Google is right, your phone should be lasting at least a day. I can sort of understand 12 hours though, those doing a lot of browsing and/or poor signal areas could be the culprit of this one.

The Eris is my first smartphone, and I love it. I had to charge twice a day (took off the charger at about 7am, then charge it again at about 4 or 5pm) with 1.5, but since the 2.1 OTA I've been getting about a day and a half of battery, as I said earlier. I don't use any extended battery either, though I was considering the 1750mAh battery before the 2.1 upgrade. Glad I didn't sink 40 or 50 bucks into that, cause I don't need it now.
