our puppy is now getting old enough to start getting in trouble when away and he's now left for longer periods of time. We have both the in-laptop webcam and an external webcam to hook up to the laptop. I'm wondering if there's a way i could turn the webcam on when we leave in a spot where we could watch most of the space he's in and view it from my droid while away. any idea how i could do something like that?

ORBLive will also do this:)
$10
I'm not sure if it's worth the money but if you have the webcam displaying on the desktop of the computer it's hooked up to you could use PhoneMyPC - Android app on AppBrain

Otherwise maybe see if some sort of streaming web app that uses flash is compatible with Skyfire Browser 2.0 (beta) - Android app on AppBrain
$10

so it's looking like it's either $10 for an app that allows you pc connectivity or nothing. dang, i really thought somehow i wouldnt need one of those.

I'd imagine Ustream would work.
that looks like it lets you stream video from your phone to their website, i'm looking for the other way around. thanks though

PhoneMyPC really is pretty fantastic, though. It lets you connect to up to three computers, (identifying them by their computer name). With some creative home networking and two or more computers, you could have the whole house wired for surveillance if you wanted to.
You view exactly what the computer screen has on it, and lets you execute programs. I scared the hell out of my wife at home when, from work, I started our home office computer's media player at volume 10 with her favorite song on our anniversary. (-Sorry to say I really haven't been more creative than that so far, but it's just an example of how powerful the app is. ;) )

I don't post much at all, but I had to say something.

Ustream is just a website for streaming video from anywhere, especially computers with webcams! You probably only searched the Ustream app for android. Notice there's a broadcaster and a viewer. If you setup Ustream on your computer and have your webcam on the whole time, you can use the Ustream viewer on the Droid to check in on the feed. I think it's pretty cool.

Just make sure you put a password on your stream so random people dont find your broadcast and look inside your home.

I think that's what El Blacksheep was thinking too.

thanks for the posts, i started using seedonk first and that was exactly what i was looking for. took a few minutes to set up and it works great. only think i dont link about it is you dont have the option to turn the lockscreen from going off so you have to hit it every few seconds.

now for part 2!

since the question above has been raised, how do i secure the stream?
