What ADS are going on here?

I just posted a thread about it on the motorola droid forum asking if anyone else is getting nag ads and the ops immediately moved it into this cave of a subforum, almost guaranteeing that no one else reads it.

I saw your post and responded to it there.

This is one of those issues I hate about forums I like; ads.

I want to support the forums, and even pay at some of them like here, but the annoyance of some of those intrusive, arrogant ads can wreck the experience of coming here, for a bit (a short bit ;)).

I've wondered if, over the long haul, it does make some users shy away and move on to other website forums without the pop-up, pop-under, slide-across and in-your-face advertisements.

It has me on many sites over the last 10+ years. If they stay on the top/sides/bottom (or even between posts), I'm ok. But, when it starts to have those banner ads that slide down to full screen and you have to click to close I get bothered. I understand people need to generate income, but I really feel that the advertising industry has gotten too "in your face" and force it more on you lately.

I feel similar.

Having said that, I don't plan on modifying my participation here because of the ads. I do wonder if they'll cause a bit of communication with the admins here, though. Perhaps they have some control over the types of ads that run, I'm not sure.

At a site we ran for six years we maintained it ad free, but it was an extension of a paid subscription news organ site.

Admins read this forum, but not in Droid unless pointed to something.

:)

..anyway, we have little to no control over what ads are rotated in by the company we use - but if we are getting too many over the top annoying ads, it helps to know about it.

I try my best to screen what ads show up here because I care a LOT about the site experience for our members. There are companies who handle our advertising so things slip by and occassionally I'll "accept" some slightly irritating ads if they're extremely targeted (like the Motorola Droid ads) and if they set cookies so you don't see them every darn time.

That being said, I'll look into the issue but a screen shot would help. We are testing a new advertising partner so it may be from them. But trust us when we say we try our best to refuse irritating ads.

Can anyone with the ability to get that xfinity ad to load do a little snooping and see where it lands, what redirect it passes through, or check out the source code for how its displaying?

I've touch based with our main ad network and they're asking for more information to help track down the culprit.

The ad takes me to http://www.xfinity.com/home/?dfaid=2199899&cmp=0. I can consistently get the ad to pop-up within two to three clicks on your site after clearing cookies. It's a flash ad, so I'm not sure how to get any additional information about what it is doing, but would be happy to do whatever I can to help kill this ad.

After weeks of blissful forum peace, I just got hit with that maddening cannot-close-for-15-seconds Xfinity ad again. It looks like you all took care of it once before - can you PLEASE talk to your ad company again? I understand you've got to make money, and I won't even gripe about the popups I can click to close, but locking up my screen for 15 seconds? Just another reason to hate Commy-cast.
