Root Just Rooted, Lot's of Questions!

Alright, please bare with me. I have been searching on here for hours, my wife is so pissed I wont get off the computer

1. I want to delete preinstalled apps that are on the phone, how do I do this?

2. Back to email pictures not showing up in Gmail, is there a fix?

3. Protected apps not showing up in Market.

4. Overclocking? Looks like I have to have a ROM that has this built in. I am using eris21official-root.zip

5. Wireless Tethering, how do I active this? I did this install_extras.bat

This script will do the following:
1) Install live wallpapers
2) Install the Nexus Launcher
3) Install the Nexus photo gallery
4) Remove HTC Lockscreen
5) Install wireless tethering

and it said it is installed but I can't figure it out in my phone.

1. What is meant by a "nandroid backup"? I see it mentioned when loading a new ROM.
--Why do I have to do this?
--When do I do this?
--How do I do this?
--What does it do?
--What happens if I don't do this?

2. Command in tools folder. I understand I have to have my phone set on USB debugging and on charge only.
--But the sd card in my phone, does that have to be the one with my music, pictures, ect on it or can it be the one I use to flash ROMS?
--In other words, does it need to stay in my phone after I type in the command or should I do the same commands with each sd card installed?
--When do I know I need to type a command in the tools folder? I assume that each time it is to be performed that it will be listed what to type on these/xda forums.

Hey! Congrats on rooting!

1. You can delete preinstalled apps, however you have to either do it manually, through commands, or use a ROM that already has them uninstalled.

2. This is a common problem with various 2.1 ROMs. I currently use the EvilEris 2.0 ROM and pictures do show up.

3. "Protected" apps? Do you mean paid apps?

4. Correct, you have to use a ROM with it built-in.

5. Click here. Download version 1.70. I use this with mine with no problems.

6. Try JCase's Eris Market Fix app. I believe he made it for just this occasion.

I would suggesting going to the XDA-Developers forum. I think you will find more in-depth answers to these questions as well as a wider selection of custom roms.

I looked at your list, and have a sneaking suspicion that you have not installed a different ROM after the phone was rooted; but it is really hard to tell - you were a little vague about what state your phone was currently in.

So, when you go to: Settings -> About phone -> Software information,
what values does it report for

Kernel version -and-
Software version

(see this index of HTC ROMs for confirmation you have root)

The reason that I ask is that the root-ROM (the first one used for the rooting process) has a very old test-release OS that is full of bugs. Nobody uses it for that reason, and you would be wasting your time to start customizing that.

You should go over and have a look at the ROMs currently available at the XDA Eris Development Forum, pick one that meets your requirements, and get that installed.

You should install Amon_RA's recovery console for managing ROMs

1.
An easy way that someone figured out to delete stock apps is using titanium backup. Just click on backup, and all the red apps are stock apps.
Click on them and uninstall. Just be very careful what you uninstall.
Shouldn't be a problem with apps like Stock, peeps... etc...

5. If you installed the extras, then Wireless tethering should be on your phone alreday. Just go through your apps... open it... click start tethering. Easy as that!
If you dont have it, you should find it in the market or you can get aNetshare here: HTC Droid Eris ROM Site

Both work well. I like aNetshare because it lets ne change the SSID. Wireless tether kept defaulting back to G1...

Just curious, as I'm confused by your post(sorry), why do you have two SD cards? why not just grab a 16GB or 32GB? makes life easier

A nandroid backup will restore your phone back to the exact state it was in at time of backup.
So if you flash something that you shouldn't....oc too much, or anything that screws up your phone..... Just do a restore and you're set.

To do a nandroid backup boot into recovery mode. You'll see backups.

You can do as many as you like and save them to your computer if you like....since they're big files.

I do at least one for every rom I flash. So for example, you can have one labeled Evil Eris backup, another Fresh backup....etc
Great for switching between roms.

Always keep at least one in your phone.... You never know when you'll need it
