Okay first this is about Sprint Hero
1)So I'm not stupid. I purposely posted here because a lot of people here are former hero users and they are quite knowledgeable about this phone and sprint...so no need for any flames or rude comments

just throwing that out there...

Anywhoo...

So i'm talking to my friend about our plans tomorrow and I get a message alert while im on the hero talking so i don't check it.

It alerts me again two mins later so i check and it's a pic message from my friend Jeremy.

The reason I am so shocked is because Sprint is CDMA and I used to have verizon and one of the faults against them was the fact that you can't do data at the same time.

So how did I get a pic while i am on the phone...I am still currently on the phone with her and I just took a picture of myself on my cam and sent a picture back to jeremy and it sent...

So how is this possible? I do have wi-fi set up but i mean that has nothing to do with it.

Also, if this has already been answered. My apologies.

Was the Wi-Fi active and connected to a network? Wifi data + voice on CDMA will work at the same time.

yeah it's connected to my home network
but the internet browsing i get...i've been doing
that.

But im literally sending pix of myself now testing it out because i could never do this on verizon.

Anytime i would have my friends send me pix, i'd have to get off and then download it and then call back

i don't think so because if that was the case a lot of ppl wouldn't be complaining that you couldn't download picture messages when wi-fi was connected.

like it's not a big deal...its actually a great thing seeing how i no longer have to get off the phone to send pictures to ppl anymore or to receive their pictures but i really would love to find an answer.

I know Sprint Heroes are not wi-max/4g capable
and I know for a fact my verizon phone could never send pix message while on a voice call and it would never browse the internet while on a voice call besides browsing on wi-fi
and Sprint and Verizon are CDMA.

And no pic message is a little different from SMS from i understand...
but thank u both for your help i guess lol hopefully more will reply to this

If your wifi is on, it has everything to do with it. Data, in this case the picture is coming via the wifi network while the CDMA network handles the voice data. Just as with Sprints new Wimax network will allow the same situation anywhere we have coverage.

Umm I may be wrong here but both MMS and SMS transmit over cellular and not WiFi. Actually I just put my phone on Airplane mode and turned WiFi on. Tried to send an MMS and it kept giving me an unable to send error until I turned cell back on

Update: as per post below I tried sending while on phone with WiFi off and it would not send the MMS..With WiFi on it sent the picture fine.

No Don't put your hero(or whatever phone you have) on airplane....
be using the phone as a voice call and then try to send a picture message
to someone

Yup it sends via WiFi. I tried it with WiFi off and it kept telling me it needed internet access to send the picture. As far as SMS those come in over cell just like a second call would. I need to go back and edit my first post.
