Help Kill apps will not die

This is irritating the hell out of me. I have Advanced
App Killer (free). It kills apps for about 30 seconds. Then as soon as I do ANYTHING besides a phone call, let's say open the web browser, I have multitudes of open apps running. Some of the real pain in the asses are: Gallery, Voice search, Alarm clock,Corporate Calendar, and Voice Dialer. I don't open them. They just reappear like a relative that just can't stay home.
Is there any kind of StartUp manager for Android 2.1? Advanced App Killer just isn't doing the job.
Thanks,
Joe

So it looks like you've had a flurry of posts recently and I'm going to guess you are new to Android.

Android is essentially a Linux operating system and does not manage memory in the same way that Windows would. Just because a program is loaded into memory does not mean that it is actually slowing your Droid down.

The task killer discussion has been done to death and I'm on the side of not using one unless a program is misbehaving.

Android intentionally launches all applications it thinks might be needed and fills up your RAM (based on a value that you can't change unless you are rooted). Some things you are running might actually require information from other programs and it launches the ones it think you will need so that if a commonly used application is called upon, it is already there. This is a performance enhancement for you.

If something is running in the background and was made by Google, then it's meant to be there. Other applications probably require input from it.

If you want more control over things then you need to root. Out of the services you listed, the Corporate Calender is probably something you could afford to remove if you don't use it.

You need to understand that if you start setting the task killer to kill these apps and Android actually needs them, you are fighting a losing battle and are only hurting your performance and battery life.

"There's an app for that." :D

No but seriously, what the guy above me said is right. Droid runs differently & it just takes time for you to get used to it & find solutions. Good luck!

big fan of ATK

yes, apps just start up. no ryhme or reason. people can try to explain, but at times, just no explanation. Why, for example, does Car Home turn itself on despite the fact I have done nothing to indicate I did anything GPS or Map related. I have no MP3 songs on my Droid, and yet AmazonMP3 decides it is time to start up. Blah blah.. the value, or not, of ATK has been killed to death but suffice it to say, in this case, plain an simple, the Droid is - wrongly - trying to be preemptive to your needs and guess what you might want soon and gets it ready. it is annoying.

I suggest you read the access of each app you as you add them, many apps are designed to always run once installed. I removed Skype because it simply thought it should run 24/7. Gesture Search, Google Talk and Handcent are others that will ALWAYS run once installed.

I removed Skype since it could not be used on WiFi and disabled WiFi for all apps.. that alone was reason enough

anyway.. some of those that "always" run - that you make the choice to download, should go into the Ignore list. Then, you will never see them in the kill list, that cannot get auto killed, and they will always do their jobs - which is why you downloaded them. Like Handcent, of course it needs to always run so it handles you SMS/MMS.

the issue is more often, as I see it, stock installed apps.. corporate calendar, amazonmp3, car home, alarm clock... etc that just randomly start up.

Thank you for the intelligent reply nstallion. Yes I am new to Android. I have been learning on this board (despite the jr. high crowd) and other boards. My phone DOES slow down when all these apps are open. And I don't multitask that well. So If the browser is open and Twitter is open, that's about all I want or need. Yet there are countless apps auto openning and using my measly phone ram.
I'm thinking about starting over and formatting.

"reformatting" your phone wont get rid of those apps. The only way to stop those annoying apps from popping up once and for all is to root your phone and remove them
