Place to get news on INCREDIBLE root?

xda-developers

You'll have to wait a few days or longer for all the recent drama to settle. The whole think to me looks like a publicity stunt for someone's new forum. Regardless of the fake claim made by some asshat yesterday, there has been a lot of BS from the get-go.
Let me sum it up for you:
"Jake" makes claims of booting an overclocked rom on the Incredible (leading everyone to believe he had root - is there any other way to boot a modified kernel without root??)

Jake posts non-working links to his kernels and asks for donations because he doesn't even have a dinc in the first place.

Someone buys Jake a phone (supposedly)

A FAKE Jake posts a fake picture on more than one forum, claiming to have success.

Real Jake apparently knows this but waits entire day to state it wasn't him?

Real Jake also apparently has a conversation with trusted person "Adicbath" BEFORE stating it wasn't him and leads him to believe he does have root. (this is the real confusing part I would like more answers on. If true, the real Jake is the asshat. If false, Acidbath may have a serious drinking problem)

I'm sad to see the root thread close. the incredible is a great phone and has great potential just not enough backing from the devs. I hope some brave soul out there is willing to spend a few days just working on root.

I would so like to see how fast it is without sense UI and all that jazz but it looks like the incredible will not get the backing it deserves and honestly its probably HTC's fault. getting an incredible is hard, and that's probably why it will just be skipped over.

Closing the root thread does not mean that rooting attempts are going to stop, it just stopped the ridiculous accusations, flaming, etc that was going on there. Root will happen. As stated many times previously, every Android device has been rooted, some just take longer than others. No worries. . . root will happen.

I'm not sure about all the details but I imagine that DI will be rooted. It is a shame that the root thread got out of control. It is also a shame that Acidbath was mistreated in that thread. If that thread is locked they should un-stick it and begin a new root thread and make it a sticky. In my mind it is kind of pointless having a sticky thread that is locked.

I'm still not clear on how Jake Day was able to say the following if he has not rooted an Incredible: "That's right, consider this the first notice that the HTC Incredible has been overclocked. Incredible boots and runs smooth at 1.3 ghz (as compared to the 1 ghz stock). I've also played with a 1.5 ghz kernel that I'm working on, but need to clean up a few things first." My understanding is that it is impossible to run a kernel on a phone unless it is rooted. Jake has zero credibility until he explains this.

If someone says a friend of a friend has something then its fake. Under no circumstances has that source ever worked out, period. If the person who has it is not posting then by all means take their word with a grain of salt and figure they are just saying it to gain attention. I don't understand why people believe and stick up for these kind of people, but its been happening for decades. People who have the goods do not post talking about it, they just lay it on you.

Well with luck someone will post a root soon... I would love to have complete control of my phone.

For those of you who don't know...this is how you can boot your incredible into safe mode (newer version).

1 start your phone
2 hold down your volume down button with one thumb and use your other thumb to press the circular button and the menu button at the same time.
3 hold this until your phone buzzes (then its ok to release the buttons)
4 you phone will start in safe mode...you will see "safe mode" in the lower corner.

Enjoy

Perfectly put.
I asked Moderators to close my threads on XDA and Here as well.
I don't drink, so no drinking problem...Lmao.
The exact timeline from my involvement is:
Opened thread.
Monitored Devs exploits and methods and would report back their results.
Got superboot from Paul Obrien Modaco page and passed it onto to Devs that hadn't already seen it.
Saw jake day claimed overclock etc.
Reached out to his friend bootbscoob via forums and eventually speaking via GTalk, to try and get direct news and methods to post here and XDA for everyone.
bootbscoob put me in contact with REAL Jake Day.
Saw picture online showing root.
Contacted Jake Day via GTalk, asked him if root is achieved and is that his picture and can he please share method/instructions.
He told me YES he had root and that he would release instructions on his blog that night, also when asked about inconsistencies in the picture he said he would address that with instructions/root blog post.
I believed him and also saw that websites androidcentral.com and androidguys.com and phonescoop.com reported root was achieved, so I updated post here and XDA.
Then propped my BBQ with wife and family.
Came back to GTalk messages from bootbscoob saying it was fake, and forums raving and going crazy.
I sent GTalk message to Jake Day asking WTF? If this is fake why didnt u say something and is this really jake day, and the only reply i got was he would clear it up with his friends at alldroid.com and he was the real jake day, then silence.
I then decided that this became a crazy lying dabocal and asked mods to close the threads.
Also to be clear, I am a WinMo chef, average Android Chef, and not a developer. I am learning more all the time but at no point have I rooted a phone myself, I have only tried to help and learn from experienced developers, the same way I learned how to chef my own WinMo roms.
My goal was to have a thread so that the average incredible user could easily find the status on root and ask questions and possibly speak to Developers if they came by, that is it.
I want no credit or glory, I only wanted to help and be involved because I enjoy Android and cell phone hacking.

Good luck all, and I wish everyone the very best in all their real lives :)

I'm pretty sure the offtopic nonsense you just posted didn't help your cause out

Actually it does because someone had to say something to get this back on topic.

There are plently of threads discussing signal strength, download speeds, etc. already. This is the only one discussing root at the moment.

Back on topic, there appears to be no news on the root front. Someone on XDA posted an HTC signed pre-OTA ROM to see if anything could be done with that. The thinking is that perhaps the OTA update also plugged potential exploits and this pre-OTA ROM might still be susceptible to them. We'll see...

i'm kind of clueless when it comes to rooting and all it entails, but is there any way we can tell if any devs are working on the rooting process? And if not, what can we do to motivate them to root the incredible

oh you can pretty much guarantee they are working on it. They want this more than you, trust me. :D They are already motivated enough, despite the previous weeks commotion. They will continue to try everything they can think of. I am sure this is more like a personal challenge to them more than the glory of finding root. They don't like to be beaten. they will continue to try as hard as their lives permit. and they WILL find root ;)

Have faith ;)

whats the point of "safe mode" i think i accidently did this the other day when trying to unplug awaken/check time/turn off the alarm, one handed. i got a wierd set up screen. so i kinda went oops and shut the phone off.

To answer your question.... safe mode boots your phone using only the minimum amount of drivers needed to operate your phone. Say for example you install an app that locks up your phone even when you restart. Let's also assume for some reason you can't delete it through normal means... safemode allows you to troubleshoot and fix things.

Better yet for all of you guys working on a root...this info may help speed up testing and troubleshooting.....(assuming)

hmmm...i could sworn i posted in here...i have the thing on the post saying i did but my post isnt here anymore...
anyways, does anyone know why acid bath status is labeled disabled??
is he banned and if so why??

i dont see why he would be, but obviously it is possible to change your status cuz if you check out "Slug's" status it says "check your six"

maybe he is just checking out for a while, till ppl stop blaming him and probably sending him tons of pms

his status is still good on xda
