Got -Petrol posted a link earlier fro the Samsunk UK firmware update

followed the instructions for specified NPS and connected as stated..

Unsurprisingly, NPS says updates not supported

Anyone done ths successsfully, yet.

Tantalisingly close to working I suspect.......... but not quite there.

not replied yet though

Not sure how i would get on going to CPWarehouse for this upgrade as i did not get it from them... was direct from T-Mobile

I presume they don't do it for mothing

Hmm I think they might do, my phone broke after about 2 months and it wouldn't charge (usb or power cable). Handed it to T-Mobile shop where I bought it in Fleet street, blah blah went away and came back as damaged by customer they wouldn't do anything whatsoever to help and this was only two months into my contract!

I decided to take it to the carphone warehouse as it's a Samsung service centre. They sent it away, took three weeks or so and they replaced the mainboard under warranty, result, a working phone! Well done to the Carphone warehouse on that one, very impressive.

It's worth a try, calling your local Samsung service one anyway to see if they do it for free, I think they have a Samsung trained engineer in store that does minor repairs, but always worth asking.

They did know about Vs 2.1 but said it was a Samsung issue to upgrade it. They do not do anything with phones

I mentioned the CPW did it for someone.. He said try them:rolleyes:

Onwards and downwards!

Hmmm remember it has to be a Samsung service center CPW though, I think there are lots of stores around me but only one ( about a mile away ) is a samsung service one.

Update is not for android 2.1..

quote:
With regard to your enquiry, although it is planned to allow handsets to
be updated via the PC Studio/KIES applications, this is not yet live for
most units.
Please note that as the GT-i5700 uses the Android OS written by Google
and as such is not supported by Samsung software (PC Studio/KIES) to the
same extent as other handsets.
The update mentioned in the website is a firmware update, not an OS
update, so the unit will still run v1.5 (Cupcake) even after the update.

end quote:

So..?????? is update at CPW (even samsung centre) only a bug update or full Android 2.1?

I need a drink!

I emailed Samsung today asked how to update to 2.1 and got a fast reply:

"Thank you for contacting Samsung Electronics UK regarding your GT-I5700.

This update isn't actually available yet, despite what it says on the website. Sorry for any incovenience. We do not yet have a release date for any updates to be brought out in the UK."

I was told by a T-Mobile store manager that the update was due end May via the T-Mobile website. He said I would receive a message on my phone when the update was available. That was 3 weeks ago.

Found this thread yesterday and got quite excited. Rang sansung and the girl I spoke to said that she couldn't understand how cpw were doing upgrades as it wasn't out in this country, must be foreign phone. Told me you had to take phone to samsung service centre and they would do it for you. However, she couldn't tell me where tofind a centre but when pushed said update would be out in 3 weeks. I wonder?
