I ordered my Incredible today and I knew it would not come until June 22nd-ish. I was fine with that. I walk out of the store happy with my purchase only to find the store RIGHT NEXT DOOR had a incredible in stock for $199 with out a rebate! I was like holy poop this is sweet stuff! I walked literally 5 mins later back to verizon and asked to return my incredible that I have to wait for. Well my luck is you CANT!!!!! The stupidest thing ever. You cant return without having the incredible in your hand..........THATS LITERALLY INCREDIBLY STUPID! If you buy anything at any other store and they dont have it in stock you can cancel your order even after they sent out for it even if you have to pay for the stoped shiping! I was even willing to pay the $30 for restocking fees, which is also stupid since they didnt have it in stock, they also didnt let me do that. Verizon is so so so so stupid! I will find myself calling up customer service tommorow and complaining until I get the phone for free!

I know you can do this for a fact because at gamestop(for example) you can preorder a game with full money payment. If you dont want it, you can go back later and get your money back. Maybe not cash, but store credit. Which would be fine in my opinion because I could use that $320 I put down on my phone for the monthly payment. Uhh stupid stuff like this makes me angry some times. To bad verizon coverage is so good or I would leave.

If anyone agrees with me on you should be able to return let me know, or even if you dont think so. The people at the store couldnt give me a straight answer why they couldnt take it back.

That's crap. You should be able to return anything you have on back order or pre-order. It's not like the phone will sit on the shelf collecting dust when it does arrive at the store.

Did you ask to talk to the store manager?

I ordered my phone on the 18th and signed up for new VZ service. My account was put on hold until the phones were activated. Sunday I was at Best Buy and they had them in stock so I got one. I had to sign up for a 2nd account and port my ATT numbers over right away. Now when my phones come I have to either refuse shipment or take them to a VZ store unopened. Has anyone done that? Not sure what the better way would be. I could use the $400 back in my account ASAP so I'm thinking taking them back to the store in person would be the best bet.

Just refuse the delivery , I have done it several times and never had a problem.
You should have told them you were going to cancel your account , they would have started kissing your a**.

Do you think if I took the unopened phones to the store I would get my refund on the spot instead of having to wait for the phone to ship back?

They probably were just telling you that so that they would get the money. Typical corporate swine tactics I'm not really sure if you signed anything, but even so, I wouldn't think there would be anything in a contract that says you cannot cancel an order. And damn, the order didn't even ship, and likely wasn't even processed! I would have pushed the issue more and demanded they cancel it. Threaten to refuse the shipment, whatever.

That doesn't make sense, you should be able to cancel the order .
I would definetly make a call on that sounds like the sales person didn't want to lose a commission.

Plus they aren't even supsoe to charge you for an order until it's shipped . Everything about this story sounds wrong lol

Good Luck

I was charged for my order WAY before it was shipped...The same night to be exact

This sure sounds illegal - the fact that they're charging us long before they've even shipped the merchandise. My husband has ordered 3 phones, so it's over $600 that they've charged our card. It would be awesome if enough people sought recourse and got interest for the money they had tied-up. It wouldn't be much but it would send a powerful message to other companies - and certainly verizon probably wouldn't try that again.

mrjerryk-
The store manager said the same thing the sales guy said. I agree 100% they just want the commision. Its as easy as that. I was not going to throw a hissy fit in the mall, not my style.

ckochinsky125-
I did call other stores, best buy, etc. It was a RITZ camera that had it. I didnt even know they had phones. That probably why they had a couple, even though I was say this on the 31st and they said they got a new shipment on the 29th. I find that weird that other stores are getting shipments over verizon stores.

Shirls-
Yes I think it is stupid they charge before they ship it, I could see a down payment until you go it to activate, but I agree paying for a phone I wont have for a whole month or longer is nutz!

jbh00jh-
I am threating to cancel my account, hoping to get something free out of this. They are getting some hard core cash out of my family bill.

I really appreciate everyone agreeing with my story. I like everyones ideas, going to try some out and see what happens ;)

I would call your credit card company since it is the policy of many of them to not allow merchants to charge you before shipping.

And where it is not illegal it is bad business in my book. And violating a ToS on the credit card can hurt companies.

+1 I thought it was Illegal to charge before themerchandise shipped. Have the cc reverse the charge if VZW won't cancel it

I pre-ordered my phone on April 19th and they charged me the same day and my phone didn't ship until the 21st. I didn't really question it b/c of the short time period, but I would be mad as hell if I was charged and my order wasn't scheduled to ship for a few weeks.
I did find that odd as most companies may put a hold or a pre-authorization on your card to guarantee that the funds are available before processing an order and to reduce fraudulent purchases (I used to work for an online retailer).

There are a couple of threads like this floating around and I disagree with the practice. Nothing should be charged until it's scanned and on a delivery truck.

OP- As someone stated above you can get a lot further w/ VWZ by calling *611, then in a VWZ retailer or corporate store. As mad as you are remember to be "nice" b/c customer service notes your acct and the details of the call, as you work your way up the customer service chain the notes from the last rep are passed on.
Don't make it about money b/c they don't care about your family plan if they lose you as a customer they aren't gonna cry about it (sorry if that sounds harsh, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.)

Good Luck!
